I'm still annoyed that Leonardo DiCaprio lost for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" to Tommy Lee Jones in "The Fugitive".

The Green Mile losing to American Beauty was a huge disappointment.

American Beauty winning was one of those few times when the Academy really got it right....

Perks should have been nominated for a number of things. And won. The noms and awards usually go to the boring movies that I don't see. No exception this year. I loved when Chicago won! And LOTR Return of the king.

The Academy often gives makeup Oscars. Paul Newman hasn't won anything, so let's give him an Oscar for The Color of Money. Robin Williams hasn't won anything, so let's give him an Oscar for Good Will Hunting. Denzel Washington keeps getting on stiffed on Best Actor, so let's give him an Oscar for Training Day. Not saying they were bad performances, just that the actors have given significantly better performances before.

This year, i thought "perks of being a wallflower" could have had a nom for adapted screenplay. I thought "paranorman" was far more inventive and fun than "brave". I didn't see " wreck it ralph" though.
One from the past that has always bugged me was Julia Roberts winning for "Erin Brockavich" over Ellen Burstyn for "Requiem for a dream". I started to question the Oscars after that one.

She also says that Tarantino isn't a great script writer, so him picking up Best Original Screenplay at both the Oscars and the BAFTAs was very nice
Well that's an easy argument to lose.

Here are my top 5 snubs that pissed me off over the last several years:

1. Gladiator taking Best Picture over Traffic (2001).

2. Russell Crowe losing Best Actor to Denzel Washington (2002).

3. Shakespeare In Love taking Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan (2000).

4. Mickey Rourke losing Best Actor to Sean Penn (2009).

5. Ben Affleck not getting nominated for Best Director for Argo (2013).

I love the Oscars. I love watching them, and talking about them. I find it amusing that people are so quick to bash the nominees and winners, because they overlooked this or that. Some feel the Academy is too snobbish, others think they don't look at smaller, foreign and independent films as much as they should. IN the end they piss off just about everyone

No awards are ever going to satisfy everyone, the Oscars have disappointed me in the past, and I know they will in the future.

My favorite film the past year was Zero Dark Thirty, I think the whole 'torture' debate hurt it's cause.

The past couple years I HATED that The King's Speech won over The Social Network and that one trick pony The Artist won over The Descendants.

I am still trying to figure out how Affleck got snubbed, not sure if it was personal or if it was an oversight.

And the fact that Kubrick, Nolan, Satyajit, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Kiarostami, Hitchcock never got a competitive Oscar.

I am more into the category of people that think "why get upset over it at all?" To read some of the posting in here you would think some were actually involved with the movies that were overlook (meaning part of production of the movie..acting...direction...sound...) if that is the case then I am sorry. Since I have serious doubt it is the case I am asking again "why so upset about it?" I see this like the people who cause riot because their favorite sports team lose a game (or even win sometime, yeah real bright ) I can say that most of my favorite movies never came even close to be nominated and at the end of the day does not change anything. I still enjoy them and the Academy can vote for who they wish, does not mean I will bother watching the movies they pick.

I absolutely loved The Social Network and thought it was one of those rare movies where the acting, writing, directing, and music were firing on all cylinders.

I couldn't believe Fincher didn't win Best Director and it didn't take home Best Picture. It was a better film than The King's Speech. A predictable, albeit well acted, costume drama.

Why was Gran Torino not nominated for all the possible Oscars?
The movie didn't receive a single Oscar nomination...

Best movie of 2008!!!!!!
