The Academy often gives makeup Oscars. Paul Newman hasn't won anything, so let's give him an Oscar for The Color of Money. Robin Williams hasn't won anything, so let's give him an Oscar for Good Will Hunting. Denzel Washington keeps getting on stiffed on Best Actor, so let's give him an Oscar for Training Day. Not saying they were bad performances, just that the actors have given significantly better performances before.

This year, i thought "perks of being a wallflower" could have had a nom for adapted screenplay. I thought "paranorman" was far more inventive and fun than "brave". I didn't see " wreck it ralph" though.
One from the past that has always bugged me was Julia Roberts winning for "Erin Brockavich" over Ellen Burstyn for "Requiem for a dream". I started to question the Oscars after that one. |

Here are my top 5 snubs that pissed me off over the last several years:
1. Gladiator taking Best Picture over Traffic (2001). 2. Russell Crowe losing Best Actor to Denzel Washington (2002). 3. Shakespeare In Love taking Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan (2000). 4. Mickey Rourke losing Best Actor to Sean Penn (2009). 5. Ben Affleck not getting nominated for Best Director for Argo (2013). |

I love the Oscars. I love watching them, and talking about them. I find it amusing that people are so quick to bash the nominees and winners, because they overlooked this or that. Some feel the Academy is too snobbish, others think they don't look at smaller, foreign and independent films as much as they should. IN the end they piss off just about everyone
No awards are ever going to satisfy everyone, the Oscars have disappointed me in the past, and I know they will in the future. My favorite film the past year was Zero Dark Thirty, I think the whole 'torture' debate hurt it's cause. The past couple years I HATED that The King's Speech won over The Social Network and that one trick pony The Artist won over The Descendants. I am still trying to figure out how Affleck got snubbed, not sure if it was personal or if it was an oversight. |

I absolutely loved The Social Network and thought it was one of those rare movies where the acting, writing, directing, and music were firing on all cylinders.
I couldn't believe Fincher didn't win Best Director and it didn't take home Best Picture. It was a better film than The King's Speech. A predictable, albeit well acted, costume drama. |
