Same here, but instead of G.I. Joe, it's the lousy Evil Dead. Now I have to go see it on a baby Imax instead.

A baby IMAX is better than no IMAX.
The only thing we have here is the Cinemark, with the XD auditorium.

Going tonight!!

I am so ready for this on the UltraScreen. One of my favorite films of all time in 3D and 7.1 deafening audio?! I'm sold.

I don't understand all the hate for 3D, if it's done well; I have no problem paying the extra dough to delve even more into the Jurassic Park world.

So you like wasting money on movies where the picture has been cropped?

One of my friends went to a 10 PM screening last night and he said the picture was perfect, and he's an aspect ratio fanatic.

Edit: Plus, all of the reviews have been glowing regarding the picture. It might just be an incident regarding IMAX screenings, which I am unable to attend (none in my area).

That would bother me big time.
Glad I didn't waste my money seeing this cropped version in 3D.

Thanks for letting us know that they ruined the picture.
I'm guessing that guy's theater screwed up the projection.

+1, heard nothing but great things!!

Can't wait to see the first sighting of the dinos in 3D. This film has meant so much to me and it brings back so many memories, I just might cry lol.

Yeah Cinemark sucks, ours is kinda rundown and dirty. I always go to the Premiere Cinema cause that one sucks less.

I can't even see JP in any format cause there is only 1 or 2 showings a day. And it's too late a showtime for me to catch the bus.

So yes or no on this? Never seen it (don't judge me ). Will only be able to see it at the nearest AMC theater and it will be my first theater 3D experience.

It may have been my theater, but I doubt it. If the theater would have perpetrated that crime, then the movie would have occupied more screen space as a result of zooming, unless there exists other cropping techniques in modern digital projectors which I am unaware of.
Still, the 3D was wonderful, and for the nostalgia alone one should watch it. I'm going again Sunday! You should dust off whatever disappointment I may have caused you by my review, and go watch the movie, you'll have a good time at the cinemas I assure you!

I did not go to an IMAX screen, not even the smaller digital IMAX screen with 1.90:1 aspect.
I went to a standard multiples showing of the movie.
The surprising thing was that though the picture appeared to have been zoomed-in, the aspect ratio was still 1.85:1(the screen was scope 2.39:1)
And one or two scenes appeared with correct framing, but they were scarce.
The framing in the CG shots appeared even worse than the cropped 2011 Blu-ray, which has been discussed multiple times in various threads.
In the Velociraptor pen wide shot, we see Alan Grant standing at the far left corner observing the Pen, on top half of that left corner there appears a small cone shaped hill top in the distance. The hill top disappeared out of the screen in the 3D version.
I hope this is just my theater.
Well we'll eventually know when the Bluray comes out.

!@#$ing Regal/UA got the theatrical engagement over at Fair Oaks, which meant the other closer theater, Rave Motion Pictures Fairfax Corner 14 wasn't able to get it ... and they have two 'Xtreme' screens.

Bow Tie Reston isn't showing this on their BTX screen, but from what I've heard the screen is set at 2.35, so a 1.85 film is either cropped or has black borders on the sides of the image - "wtf?? - no thanks". They do have it on another screen (in 3D and 7.1 audio)

I think I know the reason why Cinemark decided not to put Jurassic Park 3D, in there XD auditoriums.

It's because they figured that a 20 year old film, would have limited appeal.
So why put it in there biggest and best auditoriums, when only a handful of people are going to show up to see it?

They probably still remember the small crowds, that showed up for Titanic 3D.

yet there is no reason why not to show at least one screening on the XD screen during it's theatrical run.

All 3D screens here in India, with the exception of IMAX screens, have 2.39:1 aspect ratio, hence we do not have any choice but to watch pillarboxed versions of JP, which is better than cropped.
I remember being supremely annoyed when they cropped MIBIII 3D to 2.39:1, though it didn't look too bad, but the 3D as a result of zooming was compromised!
