I have the theatrical 3D release which I am happy with(I can't take James Nesbitt seriously as a Hobbit though)
I mean I still only have the theatrical cuts of the LOTR.

I have to admit that Special Edition looks great.

I thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical cut and I'm glad I picked it up - I loved the LOTR EE's but I can't really get excited about this one.

If it's anything like the LOTR gift sets (and the form looks nearly the same), the box itself is a work of art. I've got mine sitting in a row empty, and I took the background that was taped to the back of the box and put it behind the front view. The detail on it is pretty awesome.

was waiting for this EE, ignoring the theatical version.
Never thought The Hobbit part 1 was that great - but watchable and enjoyable in most bits.
And as me and my friend both agreed after leaving the cinema, we just enjoyed this film as it was more of a reminiscent/nostolgic trip back to LotR. The Hobbit REALLY didn't need 3 films

The features mention "The Appendages part 7 and 8" - where is parts 1-6? looks like it also doesn't have the video blogs from the features from the TE

looking forward to watching the documentary of New Zealand filming locations. lived there for a few years and really wanting to go back !

Appendicies 1-6 where on the Lord of the Rings trillogy. 2 for each film. Expect Hobbit 2 to have 9-10 and Hobbit 3 to have 11-12.

I also disagree with your point that The Hobbit doesn't need 3 films. Peter Jackson knows what he's doing and he knows that the Hobbit will never be as epic as Lord of the Rings unless it includes a lot of the things not in the Hobbit book but were in the appendicies. If the Hobbit was one film and was solely based on the book then people would be disappointed because they would expect something as epic as LotR. But once all 3 films are done then people will appreciate why he did it.

I'm visiting New Zealand this november-December so will be able to see the locations and also the new Hobbiton.

What about if it's used before 'pay rise' or 'bonus'?

Looks like our artwork is the same as the US one - with the slight difference that our banner is printed and theirs seems removable (notice how the decorated border of the artwork on ours finishes underneath the banner whereas the US version seems to keep going under the banner)

Though we do seem to have a DVD version included in ours, which the US doesn't. So, six discs?

Also, Amazon now shows the front of a rather ugly steelbook.

I sincerely hope we'll be getting the statue set, but I'm getting increasingly concerned. Doesn't look like we're getting that Bilbo's Trunk edition anymore either.

Me neither.

Which is why I'm glad he didn't play one in "The Hobbit".

Unfortunately Freeman doesn't play a hobbit either, as usual with anything he is in, he just plays himself.

A very good price as many places wanted more than that the theatrical version at release. Although I got that in store at HMV for £15.

This is very concerning indeed. Very. Bilbo's trunk...that is concerning too.

Great price. Steelbook is rather overpriced in comparison and The Hobbit films are going to be sat next to my LOTR set anyway so steelbooks wont look right.
