Remember when Whoopi Goldberg used to headline movies before "The Associate"?
It was her own vanity Wish-Fulfillment movie, and a little too much information: Before, she was the default hip-wisecracking jive everywoman...After, she was the deranged, antagonistic, off-the-rails, racially-paranoid lesbian avenger.

The camel's-straw movie that finally stopped Depp and Tim Burton's "unstoppable" careers in their tracks? Think that wasn't exactly 2013...

(But when is some movie going to kill off Will Smith's career?
Thought it was going to happen after Hancock, and then Seven Pounds...Watch, even After Earth's probably not even going to do it!)

Her cumulative choices after Network killed her career, though she blames Mommie Dearest for it.

Despite her rages against Mommie, however, it's still a magnificent performance and she continued to give great ones in stuff like Barfly, Arizona Dream (Kusturica got her to loosen up to the point where she was unrecognizable), Drunks and Albino Alligator.

That's true.

Crowe was a rising star at the time.

Nobody was checkin for the random married cameraman, that Roberts cheated

on Benjamin Bratt with.

Plus that wasn't the 1st time.

She dumped Liam Neeson for Dylan Mc Dermott

Ran off with Kiefer's best friend to Ireland, Jason Patric.

Though he had cheated, resultng in cancelling their much hyped nuptials.

Still not a good look on her part IMHO.

Or how about Harrison Ford? I'd say after Sabrina went off the rails he took a break.

No, I wasn't talking box-office "off-the-rails"; he played a normal character in Sabrina...If Ford turned into a raving lunatic off the set around that time, or used the movie to stump some crackpot tinfoil social/political cause of his own, I must've missed it.

(Sigourney Weaver's career did eventually bounce back after "Gorillas in the Mist", though, if you call Avatar 100% "back". Although that was more James Cameron's fault, and Gorillas was her own.)

Val Kilmer's best was Heat and he started going downhill after The Saint, but more specifically after Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Kilmer's reputation for being difficult and weird didn't help matters.

Plus last DTV film I saw him, he looked to be nearly 300 lbs.

Mumbled all his dialogue, at times I had to click on subs to understand what he

was saying.

Kilmer is currently doing a one man show as a comical Mark Twain. I wish I was kidding.

I think Batman Forever pretty much did him in.

How about Nicole Kidman and Cold Mountain? Man, she got snowed.

Was I really supposed to believe her and annoying ass Jude Law, as a romantic couple?

They made some questionable changes from book to screen.

Squint Zellwegger was awful.

I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something vaguely racist/sexist/homophobic about this post. Quite a trifecta!

Judge not before ye see the trailer:
[Show spoiler]

(Of course, for marketing purposes, the trailer doesn't actually show Whoopi in androphobic reverse-racist pounds of old-white-man latex makeup, a la Eddie Murphy in Coming to America, but you get the general drift--You want "racist" and "sexist"?...You GOT 'em, sister!)

I'm glad this was a hoax >>>

Well, to him it was actually about saving his career >>>

Quote:
Director Casey Affleck later revealed that he and Phoenix had perpetrated a hoax for their 2010 faux-documentary.

Phoenix has now told Time that I'm Still Here mirrored his real-life frustration with acting.

"Part of why I was frustrated with acting was because I took it so seriously," Phoenix explained. "I want it to be so good that I get in my own way. It's like love: when you fall in love, you're not yourself anymore."

He went on to say: "You lose control of being natural and showing the beautiful parts of yourself, and all somebody recognises is this total desperation. And that's very unattractive. Once I became a total buffoon, it was so liberating."

The star went on to compare the experience of I'm Still Here to child acting.

"I'd see child actors and I'd get so jealous, because they're just completely wide open," Phoenix said. "If you could convince them that something frightening was going to happen, they would actually feel terror. I wanted to feel that so badly. I'd just been acting too long, and it had kind of been ruined for me.

"I wanted to put myself in a situation that would feel brand new and hopefully inspire a new way of approaching acting. It did do that for me."

Nicolas Cage, it pains me to say, it no longer in the mainstream. What was his last film with a wide release? Ghost Rider 2? I can't see why that would be the killer, that film was actually awesome, badass, and would have been exceptional and great even without Cage elevating it to new levels. Not to mention he was in the excellent DRIVE ANGRY the year before.

I think even since the 2006/2007 combo of The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider 1 people haven't taken him seriously. To their own loss.

The thing is, how often is Will actually blamed for being the bad part of the film. Hancock was actually praised as being pretty good up until the stupid plot twist from the third act and Seven Pounds was just treated like the failed Oscar Bait it was. For both Wild Wild West and After Earth, it's his co-star (Kevin Kline and Jaden Smith respective) that got the blunt of bad press.

That's my long way of saying until Will Smith does an outright reviled solo-movie (or let his association with Scientology warp his persona like it did to Tom Cruise) he's pretty safe.

And that really rubs me the wrong way. Any other celebrity, you're Lindsay Lohan's, Amanda Bynes', Chris Brown's, they're all treated to ridicule for their action but Charlie Sheen gets propped up because "lol tiger blood."

That's because Sheen actually has acting talent and charisma. It would be a shame if he wasn't in Hollywood anymore.

I'd argue that Lindsay Lohan had actual talent before breakdown. Doesn't change the fact that the masses picks and chooses who they want to crucify and who they decide to revere.
