I would add Charlize Theron in Monster to that list, but I would definitely include Streep in Sophie's Choice as the equal of any of them.

I just finished watching my Shout Factory Blu-ray of Sophie's Choice.
Sophie's Choice is a bleak, but nonetheless radiant movie with a plot that is so entwined in popular culture these days that I was already aware of one particular storyline reveal before viewing the film for the first time today. Meryl Streep is a revelation in this movie, and I'm in awe of her ability to transform into a Polish survivor, complete with a convincing accent and all. Kevin Kline commands almost as much attention. Seeing Peter MacNicol in a film again makes me wish all the more for a Blu-ray release of Dragonslayer. The Blu-ray looks and sounds really good, even if it's not exactly demo quality. The commentary track and the interview segments are quite informative and fun (I'm still going through the commentary track.). |

I've always hated this movie because this woman's horrific story just served as a backdrop to some schlub losing his cherry to her....Sophie Choice has much less to do with Sophie as it does the mooks she spends time with throughout the movie.....it could have been a much more powerful movie told totally from her perspective....

This is way late, but I'm confused A) What were you hoping to gain other than a stomach punch? A light smack? A stomach punch is nothing compared to what Nazi Germany camp inmates went through. B.1) Does blu ray make acting chops better? and B.2) Why do acting chops and/or blu ray awesomeness make you question the value in your vow?

Anyway, I think both films deserve to be remastered for either Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray, AND they both deserve to be shown in their CORRECT and PROPER aspect ratio of 1.85:1. |

The film is owned by ITV, a UK TV network, which inherited the catalog of ITC, the British indie studio that made the film. ITV doesn't seem all that interested in remasters of their catalog titles, unfortunately. They did HD masters for most of them years ago, and they seem content with those. |
