Funny that a CD-ROM game from the mid-90's had a better cast than the actual movie!

Well, look at the overall public opinion on it. It's not a well loved movie. It doesn't even appear to have a cult status.

I think it's a perfect candidate for a reboot. Studios spend too much time redoing films that were already good, but mostly ignore the bad ones that might have had potential.

I don't think it would have made the jump to Blu if it didn't have cult status. A flawed movie, sure. But the best we're likely to get with the Wing Commander IP.

I'll predict now the review here will be a movie score of 0 or 1.

Nothing. Nadda. Zilch.

Not even a menu of any kind (which kinda stinks, because I just realized that you can't bring up any chapter selections or anything).

If you skip all the way to the end of the movie, it'll just return to the beginning. The movie (and maybe a copyright notice) is like the only thing on the disc.

Also, anyone find this in a Best Buy store? I'm thinking of making this my final Upgrade and Save purchase. I figure with 5 bucks off the price should be just about right.

Went by there this morning and they are not carrying it. Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart have been getting rather lax as far as stocking new catalog titles on release day. If you want a catalog that's not super popular chances are you have to go with Amazon.

I asked them last week if they would be carrying it. They said not in stores, so I pre-ordered it on Amazon. Best Buy doesn't want my money so I don't give it to them. The only reason I bought this is because the non-anamorphic DVD is unwatchable now. I tend to not like spending money on bare-bones releases like this with mediocre transfers, especially when they can't even give us a menu.

I have a UK DVD which is anamorphic.

Standard Starz/Anchor Bay treatment of calaolg, and some mainstream, blu-ray releases. At least the mainstream releases get a menu!
Beadzzled, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Silver Streak, The Entity, etc., etc.......
And usually a terrible or just passable PQ and AQ

Even if the movie is trash, it doesn't deserve a release like this. It looks absolutely atrocious. Surely this isn't even a true HD transfer but an upscale, and from a less-than-stellar source to begin with. And not even a menu? Sheesh, Anchor Bay, I guess I'll stay well away from your releases in the future.

From looking at the screen caps I would say that it's not an upscale, but definitely a decade plus old master.

They should have made this release "The Trailer for Star Wars Episode 1" and just had Wing Commander as an extra. It probably would have sold better!

I haven't watched it yet but I did pop it in to skip around. The titles look shockingly bad. The film itself seems to improve, and is certainly better than the only other option - the non-anamorphic DVD. But there's no doubt overall this is a terrible release. Anchor Bay obviously doesn't want my money in the future.

Is it me, or didn't the DVD even have better audio? I seem to recall the audio track on the DVD packed some real punch, as opposed to the one on the BD, which is rather flat and subdued.

When the BD drops to $10 or less I will compare it to my DVD.
