Realistically, I can't always get everything I want. If you look at my extremely limited entertainment budget vs. the number of Blu-rays I WANT to get every month, it doesn't usually work out the way I'd like. I typically have some difficult decisions to make before it's said and done.

This is an easy one: I don't buy anything else! I don't own a car, only pay a fraction of rent (thanks to my sister), don't go out much anymore so I don't need a fancy wardrobe or new shoes every month, and, best of all, I'm unmarried and without children. This leaves plenty of room in the budget for movies (and my new passion, records). Life is good.

I was paying 100 a month for Directv. I cancelled it and put that money towards buying movies and shows and Netflix. It's worked out great.

Out of the family budget $400 a month is set aside for me to do with as I please, no questions asked. System works great for us. Most of my buys come from this although once in a while my wife wants something bad enough to foot the bill for it.

Hear hear. I have no cable or satellite service, and the only reason I own a television at all is to watch Blu-rays. I just have a WiFi Blu-ray player, a HDMI cable, and a television, just like The Flintstones. It's a minimalist setup, and I save a lot of money not having cable.

ever watch Family Guy where Peter buys the boat and then needs to make money quick in order to pay for it or he will lose the house? everyone had the same idea for how Peter could make money...........

seriously, I am careful on what I buy. I usually order online as I can get a better deal than in store and sometimes I just have to wait a while until the price drops.

How do you guys fund your blu-ray movie purchases? Do you budget? Cut back on partying/alcoholism? Live in a box? Eat ramen every night? Or just straight up ballin Walter White style? Just wondering

I myself do a little bit of all of the above mentioned. Also selling off my DVDs to offset costs of blu-rays.

Thanks for your time!
I take out a new home loan every 30 days...

Realistically... I don't have a job at the moment
I moved back home after my older sister died (Mom's disabled and my dad's just getting older, so I moved back to be together and help). The only bills I have are my cell phone and (soon to be) school loans. Just because, I also pay the water bill. I don't have a big, steady stream of money. I do odd cartooning commissions, so IF/when that cash comes in, it goes to the three things I just mentioned. Anything at all (spare money wise) that comes up goes to my movie library. I don't do anything else that requires big chunks of money. Also, I do a lot of trading at MovieStop. Especially during their 50% bonus trade in offers (I had originally 1200 DVDS. Down to about 275).

Wow, I didn't think I'd be this open on a forum

I'm sorry for your loss. My parents are getting older, so I visit more often these days, since I only live 45 minutes away.

So...you just admitted to cooking meth?

I'm a software engineer. I buy what I want. Go to college, kids!

But seriously, I also bargain hunt, and wait on most new releases (except in cases of limited editions I want or one or two things I gotta have per year, and things that generally jump up and stay up after release week). You can pick up a lot of new titles during Black Friday for under $10 these days. And use reward cards, discount cards, coupons, etc, whenever possible. And my only other vice is toy collecting. Everything else I am a major tightwad on.

Got rid of cable recently and love the $100 per month savings. For TV shows, I use a combo of streaming apps and some movies I buy while others I stream.

As far as saving for bd's, I can buy mostly whatever I want, but I do shop for sales and try to only buy what I know I'll watch many times.

I got rid of cable a long time ago. "There's never anything good on" really means just that! Only show I watch is Walking Dead. People are predicting the end of physical media - I say cable television will be the first to go.

Well, obviously I have a job and buy discs as part of my disposable income.

However, I have a second job that I got to earn extra money to pay my student loans while my wife finishes grad school, and I use extra money from that job to buy fun things for myself -- video games and blu-rays I can't justify spending my regular income on, like the Japanese Yamato 2199 discs or upgrades of things I already own on DVD like MST3K the Movie. I hope to quit that job after she graduates in June 2014, so I need to start being more responsible with my purchases.

IMO The Walking Dead actually looks better when I stream it from Vudu in HDX than it did when I watched it on HD cable. I also think cable will be the first to go unless they change the business model. Now days, if you have a fast internet connection, don't watch sports, and only watch a handful of shows, paying those big cable bills just doesn't make any financial sense. Even just buying the blu-ray sets for a current season of the TV shows that I currently watch is cheaper than what I pay for cable in a year.

I'd love to get rid of cable. Unfortunately the wife won't let me.

I've only bought a handful of blus since I bought my house a few months ago. Growing up sucks!

I budget very well. It helps that I'm a certified bargain hunter so I don't spend more than $25 a month on entertainment; I'm not afraid to buy used, wait patiently for a price drop unless it's something I really want to see, still buy DVDs, rarely go to the theater, and sell off excess crap at flea markets and garage sales (usually getting the same amount I paid for them, or more even).

Other than all the DVDs/Blu-rays I own, I live pretty simple: No cable/satellite, only own a TV/Blu-ray Player, a laptop computer, a bicycle and a car - all bought new and paid for in cash. I rarely eat out anymore, good home cooking just tastes better IMO. Run local errands on the bicycle which has it's obvious health benefits and saves money I would be spending on a gym membership, gas, and wear & tear on the car.

I should also mention that I only purchase one Blu-ray a month. Right now, I'm on February, 2096.
