If you've been following Rush for any length of time you'd know you were going to get a heavy dose of new material when they play. I can't think of even ONE band who have been around this long who are making great albums like CA this late into their career.
I've been a Rush fan since 1977 and it's the new material and never standing still that keeps me a fan. If you want the greatest hits set, watch the DVDs. This tour was awesome, they pulled a lot of Power Windows era stuff out of the vaults too. Last edited by toscano; 11-23-2013 at 02:47 PM. |

I picked this up last week. But have been hesitant to open it up and play it after numerous reviews over at amazon.com about how bad the audio mix is. I got this at Best Buy last Thursday and it was the last Bluray on the shelves, it also came with a Rush t-shirt. Those of you who have watched this what do you think of the audio and how does it compare it to other concerts? I just want to know it I should keep this or return and get my money back? This is the longest I've had a concert at home and yet to view it. So far no Bluray official review had been posted it. Makes me wonder.

Funny Rush story.... Back in '84, they were touring with the great guitarist Gary Moore opening for them that tour. My friend and I were huge fans of Moore but didn't care for Rush at all. So we scored 10th row tickets to their Irvine, CA show, caught Moores set, then went up to the lawn when Rush came on and after about 4 songs, gave our tickets to a couple of dejected looking fans and we left. Fast forward to 2002, on a whim I lucked out and scored a 7th row floor seat to Rush's Los Angeles Vapor Trails tour stop and it turned out to be one of the better concerts I've seen in almost 35 years of shows. |

R-30 & Snakes & Arrows blurays but it's still worth keeping... lower your expectations though. Just don't watch this after watching the new amazing Dream Theater bluray you will be bummed out... too bad Rush didn't use the same guys to do their Bluray ![]() |

I was honestly a bit shocked at how sub-par the camerawork and PQ was on this disc. TIME MACHINE: LIVE IN CLEVELAND looks substantially better.
I'm not saying don't buy it, but I just assumed after TIME MACHINE that everything would have the same production value. Many of the shots on this disc look very handheld/amateur. |

CA has so much more lighting, backing video, pyro, string section, etc. It is often too dark & too fast to change cameras. Also some of the shots seem to be from instrument or other fixed mount Go-Pro cameras. The vocals & guitars are much too loud in the mix & there seems to be a lot of hall reverb. This makes it sound more live rather then just the sound straight from the board. I agree it does suffer from overworked editing. I also think it was rushed to release, much sooner after the tour's end than other Rush videos. ![]() Last edited by ZombieCrue; 11-26-2013 at 03:31 PM. |

I have a bunch of concert CD's and all of Rush's. The most important part of a concert is the sound and this Blu definitely falls short in this category. The mix is very substandard and I'm not happy with it at all.
The video is Ok just due to the fact of how the lighting is through out the concert. Overall the PQ is ok. I'm going to keep it but I just don't know how much I'll revisit this. |

I have yet to buy this blu ray, but I'm watching this right now on Palladia HD and it looks atrocious with all the noise and pixellation. I hope the blu ray looks substantially better. i know these shows always look worse on Palladia because of the added compression and 1080i resolution, but it better be a WHOLE lot better.

Unfortunately, this BD will likely disappoint you. At various times the image exhibits interlacing artifacts, color banding, and blown-out highlights. To me it screams of a very low-budget, amateurish production. Somebody needed to teach the camera-operators how to white-balance and set proper exposure.

I've warmed up to the audio a bit....at first like everybody else i thought the mix was terrible but after going through it more and more and it actually has some redeeming qualities. Tends to sound better dropping the 5.1 and opting for the 2.0 stereo in my opinion.

RUSH's "Clockwork Angels" is some of the best work they've done after they dropped their adult-contempo chops on "Hold Your Fire". This newest album takes those same elements of their 70's and 80's/90's work and fuses it with the typical over processed and compressed garbage mixing. It hurts me deeply.
They deserve much better. The art gets buried. All the shape gets molested by clipping. How could they let this go?! (The producer/engineer). This concert, from what I've seen, is just another sloppy mess. Little thought put into it. Horrible sound mix, clipping, disorienting editing (way too fast!), the usual suspects. Aside from RUSH being a victim to modern inconsistencies, "The Garden" really sends them off proper. |
