I think the poster and synopsis got this film the "Grindhouse" tag. But that's how it was marketed, and I'm sure it played plenty of shady theaters back in the day. Many Grindhouse flicks were far more than exploitative, they are just remembered for whatever exploitation they brought.

Drafthouse Films has unleashed the rabid trailer for their theatrical re-release of Ms. 45, Abel Ferrara's 1981 revenge thriller classic. The trailer, cut by Hobo with a Shotgun director Jason Eisener, gives the first look at the film remastered in HD from the original negative materials by Drafthouse Films.

Exactly. This film was marketed as pure exploitation when originally released and it perfectly fits into that category. I saw it opening day at the old Culver Theater (3-plex) in Culver City, a fleapit dump theater that all the grade-Z and exploitation films opened at. From GATES OF HELL to THE DUNGEONMASTER to DON'T GO NEAR THE PARK to MS. 45 to countless others. Some films were simply forgettable exploitation garbage, and some, like MS. 45 were quite a step above the usual junk. I remember really being surprised by it at the time as it wasn't the usual exploitation fare
[Show spoiler] and the small bit with the dog at the very end really left an impression and resonated for a while afterwards
. It is a terrific piece of independent cinema, yes, but it is still very much an exploitation-grindhouse film. Just because it's a quality one doesn't change that.

That price goes up each time I see it. First time, when I should've pre-ordered it, was just over $20. The other day it was $24.98, now at $27.98. ****er's gonna be $49.98 by release day at this rate!
Walking a tightrope here, my ebay proceeds from selling the dvd covered the first price, but not quite the new one. Hopefully it will drop back to around $20.

Just some kind of stunt they're pulling trying to get folks to order. Not falling for it. If I miss out then I miss out but I sure as hell ain't paying 50 bucks for a blu-ray which will probably end up being a BD25.

There's no calculated, diabolical, 'stunt' involved here. Amazon pre-order prices fluctuate all the time.

Yeah but why do the prices fluctuate all the time? Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

Has anyone seen the theatrical re-release? I'm going to a midnight screening next weekend.

The cover is pretty good but I would have preferred the poster image with her leg and the thug. Still monumentally happy about getting this.

Putting the original poster on the reverse would have been a nice touch. Has there been any word on possible extras?

super-rare 35mm screening of the R-rated cut!!
I'm glad I'll be watching an actual print, but on the other hand, I wish it were the unrated cut.

I saw the R-rated cut on 35mm two years ago in our local film museum. It was definitely worth it, seeing it on a big screen.

Saw it a few days ago at the Silent Movie Theater in LA. I'm pretty sure it was a digital projection. But the new transfer is pretty amazing. Looks almost TOO clean for such a grimy movie like this, although the nighttime sequences were more grainy (to be expected.) No DNR or any of that crap - it just looks like they did a damn good job restoring it. I don't think anyone would EVER think that this movie could look this good.
