the issue I always had was why is it okay for a movie but not for anything else? so her parents gave permission for that movie, what if they wanted her nude for a photoshoot too? nothing sexual but it would involve nudity. is that fine too? people are arrested for having images of nude minors but if mom and dad say it is okay, are the pictures okay? after all, they are the guardians so if they have no problem with it, why should you? it isn't a matter of censorship, it is a matter of keeping consistant. if we are going to say under 18 is wrong, then it needs to be wrong across the board otherwise you allow for loopholes and exceptions that will get exploited. Well, she isn't 18 but she will be in a month so it is okay. She just turned 17 but she is very mature for her age so it is okay. She is 16 but her mom and dad don't mind so it is fine ..... whose definition of art are we using? it is okay for your art but not for mine? if we allow parent concent to be the deciding factor, then why bother with a law. if we have a law to prevent exploitation, then why does concent matter.

Not that the film was that controversial, but Bale making himself almost emaciated for the role certainly was. Allegedly, his eating consisted of one cup of black unsweetened coffee and an apple or a can of tuna each day for 4 months prior to filming.

I don't think it hurt or helped him at all.

Christian Bale could have died (literally) from Anorexia due to severe malnutrition, when he was preparing for the role in The Machinist! Personally, I wouldn't have taken that kind of a deadly risk just to play a character in a movie, not for all the money in the world. Thanks to God, he's still among the living.

He creep me out too when I seen The Machinist. Christian Bale went on a starvation diet, while all of his vital organs were gradually shutting down, and he probably didn't even realize it. I bet he wouldn't do that again because he allowed himself to be critically ill for 4 months, but I'm quite sure, he was being monitored extensively by his physician, during his diet. I thought that he got cast during shooting of the Machinist (before it was released) as he gained 120 pounds after the Machinist and went straight onto the Batman set. They made jokes about it being "Fatman" because he hadn't worked out yet to turn the weight gain into muscle because it was such a quick transition.


Bale was cast for Batman Begins on September 11, 2003. The Machinist was released January 2004.

Find Me Guilty. That's not controversial unless taking an acting expanding role in a film by a renowned director is controversial.

Find Me Guilty was simply a case where Diesel wanted to shed his image as an action actor. Being Sidney Lumet's comeback likely attracted him to the project as well.
