I'm still holding out for an exclusive. I know Iron man 3 didn't get one, but I can dream.

I just finished up a little bit of research. If they were to go by the schedule of Iron Man 3's home release--I reckon we ought to see some cover art sometime in January. Maybe even near the end of this year.

Iron Man 3 was released in late-April/early-May, with the cover art being revealed on June 28 or so. That's about 2 months smack in the middle of the theatrical and home releases. ^,..,^

I hope the art is the awesome poster with the whole cast on it. It better be on at least one edition of the blu ray and that'll be the one I get.

cool little trivia for those that stood for the 2nd credit scene

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
According to Natalie Portman in an article that appears in the New York Daily News. During the post credit scene where Thor and Jane Foster finally kiss. The woman in the scene is not actress Natalie Portman as she was unavailable to film the scene, but Chris Hemsworth's actual wife Elsa Pataky

i definitely did not catch this! need to focus on this one when the BD comes out

They'll probably want this out around the time Captain America releases, so maybe late March/early April?

IM3 was 4 and 1/2 months from theater release to Blu-ray release.

4 and 1/2 for Thor TDW is late March---so I'd say good estimate!

My guess March 18.

But oddly, my gut says sooner. Maybe there is some calendar/holiday reason they have for doing it sooner and also depends on when other current releases stake their release day claim.

From now on I am buying these movies on release because they never drop in price, I have been holding out on Thor and The Avengers forever and still no real price drop. I have learned my lesson for these movies though and even though I don't own Thor yet I will get Dark World in its release window for the simple fact the price will never drop.

If you preorder it from amazon they give you the best chance at getting a lower price

Yep. Because it's Disney now and you know how stubborn they can be with the animated films. I'm still waiting for Iron Man 3 to drop.

If these new pre-orders that have appeared for "Thor: The Dark World" are legit, then I have to say I'm thrilled with it. I am speaking in terms of the 3D edition being strictly 3D-Blu and 2D-Blu and no longer including the DVD copy. I get the whole combo pack thing, but clearly those of us purchasing the 3D edition have no use for the DVD copy. That being said, by release day I hope to see this edition drop in price slightly. I'd be cool with $22.99 for the 3D edition if DVD copy isn't included anymore. Right now the pre-order is open for the same $27.99 that "Iron Man 3" went for (and that came with a DVD and the soundtrack download.)

Anyway most importantly I can't wait to watch this again, so great!!!

Why is Amazon doing this? I've seen this happen with other BD preorders, where the original preorder just remains in limbo.
So I cancelled my previous Thor2 preorder and re-preordered with this new link. Of course the old link is no longer showing on Amazon. I wonder why they don't inform people that have preordered, that they are cancelling the item and re-adding it as a new listing?
Not sure I like this new practice on Amazon's part.

It's too bad Disney got rid of the lenticular covers. The image of Thor wielding Mjolnir, with the lightning around him--that would have made a great lenticular.

The slip for Iron Man 3 3D was great, despite it not being lenticular. Thor should follow suit.

So my old preorder for thor 2 is no longer valid. I had to re-preorder it. I wonder why amazon didn't send out a email explaining this

happens often. Or multiple pre-orders that look the same (specially Canada) but with slightly different prices etc so which is the one? Try to fix things when I see them. I'll probably will have to move all the collections eventually from one to another if the other DVDed ones are truly gone.

Thanks so much for catching it when you can, Deci.
I've always wondered if you guys do that: Move collections from one title to another? I would think it has to be an impossible chore, unless you're actually looking at said title, as the scope is so large.

Another problem with Amazon is that when the old discontinued pre-order is combined with another already shipped item used to achieve the free shipping threshold---they sometimes don't let you cancel the remaining unshipped item!

Then you may have to call and talk to someone and explain the long convoluted story to allow the discontinued version to be canceled and not be charged retroactive shipping on the item you already have.

Is this a sign Disney might be done with Blu-ray/DVD combo packs?
Hmm….weird since Disney it big on combo packs.
