Also I have a question say I want to upgrade my Hdd down the road it's the same as the PS3? I would have to buy the drive and copy over the contents from that to the new drive?
Sorry, I forget to post the link...

I'm gonna hold off for 2TB before cracking my PS4 open.

Yeah an extra 500GB would be nice but I want the most possible & my Wii U is laughing right now at PS4 btw.

I would not get that.. from looking at the reviews it says the drive needs needs software to see the hard drive part otherwise you just see the SSD part.

Thank you very much. 1 really want to go all out on a SSD 1 TB, but thats more than the PS4 itself... I see the advantage of the SSHD by Seagate, but with only 8GB of flash memory, I dont know how well it would do long term...

Hopefully as time goes by we will hard larger capacity drives that will be able to fit in the PS4.. I don't have my PS4 in front of me yet but I can't see why they did not make the drive cage a little taller so we would not have to worry about the drive thickness?

Ok, I have some very sad new

Seems like I was mistaken. The HDD reviewers had a look at the components and seems HDD manufacturers wised up to what some users were doing such as what I suggested and they soldered on the USB ports

So they have absolutely NO SATA ports like previous gens that would have allowed you to simply take it out the case and attach it like any other 9.5mm drive sans warranty.

Guess we'll just have to wait for the 'officia' and expensive release of the 2TB

well guess what these two work -

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

( select black for the other one) id probbly get the silver one anyway betwean those two drives both are priced over 140 bucks locally,

the other thing i wonder if the caddy tray was modified would the 15mm drives fit ? ie if you bent the handle off?

sorry to post on two different threads but i'm desperate:

After much research I bought a HGST Travelstar 7K1000 1TB to replace the stock drive in my ps4. Seems to be a very popular drive.

After about dozen attemps, I cannot get the ps4 to load safe mode with this drive attached. When I go back and try the stock drive it works fine. But every time I try the new one:

instead of the second beep happening after holding power for 7 seconds, it's more like 12-14 seconds and then I get the pulsating blue light for a while...then PS logo shows on the screen and I get all excited like it's gonna work, and then the screen goes black for another minute or so, the light on the ps4 changes to white and I get the error message "PS4 cannot access system storage error code (CE-34335-8)". At that point the only thing to do is power down.

I'm made sure all the screws are tight, I pushed the drive all the way into the bay until it clicked, I completely unplugged the power from the unit got 15 minutes etc. It's not an issue with the install save file on the USB stick because I can't even GET that far.

Please, anything you got...

It's been a while since I did mine (launch day) but:

I would say to plug that drive into a PC to see if it's even recognized. An external enclosure would be easiest. If it is I would reformat it to exFAT. That would rule out the drive being toast.

You should also need the PS4 system software on a thumb drive according to this http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1321...r-less-than-50

Reinstalling the system software
As the console now has a brand new drive with none of the system software installed, you'll need to reinstall it manually. You'll definitely need an external USB drive (or memory stick) on at least 1GB in capacity for this part of the set-up, even if you stored all of your saved games in the cloud.

Create a folder called "PS4" on the drive using a computer, then a folder inside that called "UPDATE". You then need to download the latest system software file from Sony and be wary of following some links on the PlayStation site as they can send you to earlier versions that won't work (you'll just get an error message when trying to install).

When we performed our upgrade the PS4 required system software version 2.30 which we found here at playstation.com/ps4initialise, but now you can get system software 3.50. It will be 800MB or more to download but is the complete software, not just an update. If the file is much smaller it's the wrong one and won't work.

Move the downloaded file (named PS4UPDATE.PUP) to the UPDATE folder on the drive and you're ready to install it on the console.
Then try the Safe Boot method. Also keep in mind there are two version of system software on the SONY site. One is a larger file for what you're doing (installing fresh) and the other is smaller (but the same version number) but is for updating a system that is already up and running. This caused me some grief initially.

Hope this helps.

thanks but i already have a USB stick attached with the update (it's actually the new install file that's triple the size of the firmware update), and it's still not working. also they say it should still boot to safe mode without the USB inserted and it will then prompt you to attach it. but regardless of whether the USB is inserted or not at the time of attempting safe mode, it doesn't work.

I realize I could try hooking it up to another computer but since this is a small laptop drive i'm assuming i would have to physically open up one of my laptops to do so, and it's not worth it to me...i'd rather just return this one to Amazon and try another since I know this same model works for tons of people, i must have just received a dud. My only full sized computer is an iMac which are notorious for not being easy to open and mess with, not that i want to anyway.

other thoughts anyone? or is trying another one of the same model the best bet? I really want a 7200 rpm drive and this seems the highest storage available (would love a 2TB but no dice yet).
