I went back exactly 30 years and found a title I'd very much enjoy seeing remade with big-screen spectacle and masterful storytelling befitting the source material: Dune

I would prefer a story similar to the 2000 made-for-TV Sci-Fi channel special, however. I never particularly cared for David Lynch's version.

Cast would be:

Paul Atreides: Chris Pine or Liam Hemsworth
Leto Atreides (Paul's father): Liam Neeson (if Paul is Pine) or Robert De Niro (if Paul is Hemsworth)
Jessica Atreides: Helen Mirren or possibly Catherine Zeta-Jones
Baron Harkonnen: Brendan Gleeson, I think this man can be terrifying in the right sort of role.
Chani: Jennifer Lawrence is an obvious answer. Other possibilities include Emma Stone or Natalie Portman.


Feyd Rautha Harkonnen: Steven R. McQueen is a possibility. He buffed up quite a bit for the Vampire Diaries series and I imagine with some makeup he could fill the role, and he does look young enough. Only concern would be his voice in contrast to Brendan Gleeson's as they are supposed to be uncle and nephew. I also don't entirely know whether he has enough menace to fill the role. Another possibility, though an older actor but with suitable menace and perhaps more believably related to Brendan Gleeson, would be Joseph Morgan, most known in recent memory for the character of Klaus in Vampire Diaries and The Originals television series.

Seven actors I can think of who could fit other roles in the story and bring something great to the table: Gary Oldman, Jean Reno, Vin Diesel, Rosario Dawson, Vera Farmiga, Mark Addy, Alan Tudyk


Other roles are present in the world of Dune as it is a large one but these are some of the more key roles I can think of/remember to fill. Having gone through this little exercise I realize how difficult it is now to cast a film, and I actually believe it harder to cast a great antagonist, as an antagonist must be simultaneously able to be hated but also identifiable/likable on some level.

Hm, may never happen, but a sequel to Rocketeer. If it takes too long, then a remake with perhaps Chris Evans since he did Captain America with the previous Director. I'd like him to tackle it again. Can't seem to pick the rest of the cast. Chris Evans isn't final either. Just can't think of a good Billy Campbell look alike.
