I really hate to be the guy who does this, but here, for instance, are the Worst Actor nominees of the last five years:

2009 - Jonas Brothers, Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, John Travolta
2010 - Ashton Kutcher, Jack Black, Gerard Butler, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson
2011 - Adam Sandler, Russell Brand, Nicolas Cage ,Taylor Lautner, Nick Swardson
2012 - Adam Sandler, Nicolas Cage , Eddie Murphy, Robert Pattinson, Tyler Perry
2013 - Johnny Depp, Ashton Kutcher, Adam Sandler, Jaden Smith, Sylvester Stallone

And Worst Director:

2009 - Michael Bay, Walt Becker, Brad Siberling, Steven Sommers, Phil Traill
2010 - M. Night Shyamalan, Seltzerberg, Michael Patrick King, David Slade, Sylvester Stallone (!)
2011 - Dennis Dugan, Michael Bay, Tom Brady, Bill Condon, Garry Marshall
2012 - Bill Condon, Sean Anders, Peter Berg, Tyler Perry, John Putch
2013 - 2013 - Dennis Dugan, Tyler Perry, M. Night Shyamalan, Movie 43's directors, Gore Verbinski

So yeah, there is some overlap, but it's hardly identical. Quite frankly, the Academy often has repeat nominees and winners. And, more importantly, if someone routinely puts out shit, why would you stop acknowledging it? It's still garbage either way.

They're only predictable because a lot of people see horrible films (Sandler and Perry being prime examples), so they keep getting made. Both of them routinely make films among the worst in a given year, and I don't think that excludes them from being noted. The predictability is a defect of the film industry, not the awards show itself (although I can see how it could annoy someone, in either case).

As for "kicking the one's who are already down." I cannot accept that. I never am going to feel sorry for someone making that amount of money, if the "kicking" consists of acknowledging they are either terrible artists, or they choose to not use their talent.

Really? I agree with you on Lone Ranger but in all honesty, Grown Ups 2 was the worst of the year IMO.

Just thinking of it now ... Wow, what a piece of sh!t .............

As someone else (well several) said, it's just lazy piling onto the movies everyone already knows were awful (and many already decided were awful before they ever saw them... hell, I'm sure people vote on them having never seen them).

If you want a counterpoint to the usual awards shows, the best thing USED to be the MTV Movie Awards - for the first 5 or 10 years anyway. They were fun, and the usual awards like "Best Movie" were secondary. The fun is in the categories they make up "Best Oh Sh!t Moment", "Best Kiss", "Best Scare", "Best team-up", "Best Action Sequence", etc...

of course, then the awards show went to SH!T around like 2000 or so when the internet exploded. It became about which fanbases would sit there the longest doing hundreds of votes for their favorites, and awards started going to Twilight movies, and crap like Napoleon Dynamite.

So yeah, there is no good "fun" alternative to the Oscars. It's not the Globes, it's not the Razzies, and it sure as hell ain't the MTV awards anymore.

The SAG and CCA are decent but most of the time NO awards show is worth watching.

Just another popularity contest. Or in this case, popular unpopular movies. They won't give out nods to stinkers like Only God Forgives, because the general public doesn't care about the movie or even heard of it.

And the worst acting awards always go to either two categories. Actors we know that suck and love to hate like Lindsay Lohan and Jaden Smith. Or good actors that stared in bad movies like Naomi Watts and Johnny Depp, and they are only nominated to try and create a stir or get some buzz for these lame awards, but no one really cares.

Also, Only God Forgives is a damn fine film.

In general you may be right about this point. But did you see Lone Ranger? Easily the worst performance of Depp's career (and I'm no big Depp fan). It was Kim Kardashian in Temptation level bad.

I saw 125 2013 films, and Only God Forgives remains at the very bottom. Pure trash as far as I'm concerned and I know many that agree. Acting and dialogue was horrendous.

Yes I saw The Lone Ranger. And no I didn't think he was that bad. I found him amusing most of the time. Was he great? No. A contender for one of the worst performances of the year? Not by a long shot from what I've seen. If anything from that movie, Armie Hammer would be more deserving of that.

The cinematography and soundtrack alone make Only God Forgives better than quite a good amount of films this year.

Not to mention these guys, with the exception of Copland and Rocky Balboa always find a way to include Sylvester Stallone. The hate these guys give him you would think he took a big dump on their lawns or something.

Im really not sure about Only God Forgives myself despite loving Drive and also quite liking Valhalla Rising and Bronson.

Only God Forgives = Bloodsport meets (a singing) Bad Lieutenant!

lol! That is exactly what I was thinking! Love the new Trek films, and I was never interested in anything Star Trek related until JJ's films (the new movies even got me to like the originals). Can't wait for episode 7!

I wouldn't expect Episode VII to be quite like Abrams' Star Trek films in terms of the writing, but in terms of the style and overall fun vibe, yes, they will be similar. I can't wait for him to take on Star Wars. He clearly wanted Star Trek to be more like Star Wars in the first place. Now's his chance to go all in and really show us what he can do in that type of universe.

Back on topic: the Razzies are good for a slight smirk, but that's about it. I'll take the Academy Awards any day of the week over this show. Not my thing.
