yup, which is why I'll be going with her. she's kind enough to go to films like "Godzilla" and "Sin City 2" with me so I better damn well be flexible to go with her when she really wants to see a movie (I prefer NOT sleeping on the couch )

If the movie is half as good as the book, you will find yourself pleasently surprised.

There's one review at Rotten Tomatoes so far and it's positive.

Is the embargo on reviews lifted?

"Life is not a wish granting factory"

For real? Someone actually wrote that? Actually, that sounds like something those 500 Days of Summer numbskulls would love.

I know the label "indie film" can mean a lot of things and not all independent films are crap, but stupid hipster cheese like this gives them all a bad name. Are the opening credits done in that "quirky squiggly animated lines" deal too? That would be perfect.

I'm pretty sure that's in the book. Which I didn't like BTW, and dialogue like that is a big reason why.

There was a sneak preview screening last Thursday here in H-Town, so people have definitely seen it.

To each their own. (500) Days is amazing.

The twee narcissism of the whole enterprise made me queasy. The whole thing was uncomfortable and embarrassing to watch.

This movie doesn't try to be as "hip" as (500) Days of Summer, but it tries too hard to have "symbols" and "meaning". The cigarette thing is an annoyance in the book but stops the movie cold.

[Show spoiler]For instances, instead of Gus making a trip to the convenience store to buy cigarettes, he could've taken the car late at night to go anywhere to do anything that a very sick person would want to be able to do on his/her own. Heck, it could've been to do nothing other than being able to take a late-night drive just because.

The Spectacular Now (same writers) is much better than (500) Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars.

Well, I greatly prefer (500) Days of Summer to the good but disappointing Spectacular Now. I was hoping this wouldn't end up underwhelming like the latter, which I'd really been looking forward to. I probably won't have a problem with Fault as I loved the book and the writing was great, IMO. I don't care if people don't really talk like that and the characters are wise beyond their years.

Ever since I heard the title of this movie I was hoping it would be an expose on the desperate lives of movie stars. I don't care about some "Walk to Remember" remake.

I am trying to get myself to like this but it seems so damn predictable and so tweeny and full of angst.

I would much prefer to see characters who have something real to them, like 500 days (with the last 10 minutes cut off) or Like Crazy.

But things like this and Spectacular Now reek of fluffy bull$hit fantasy. I'm still confused as to why the book became so praised.
