Do the BFI blu-ray releases require a region free player?

I don't have this particular version, however, it appears to be Region B locked

What are folks expecting in the near future regarding Buster Keaton? I've been tempted by the Ultimate Keaton box, but knowing the Kino/Eureka Shorts collections are coming out soon, I'm trepidatious to jump on the box when a part of it is already going to be obsolete. Is it likely the Kino box will get updated with the new Shorts set? Or are folks expecting all of Keaton's work to get a similar re-restoration like the shorts, so I might as well hold off for a whole new box?

There is another Keaton set coming out a year after the upcoming set, so unless you just break down and buy something, you might be waiting a while. It's likely that all three versions of the shorts will have their own plusses and minuses.

So the set coming out soon as parts of the already released set from Kino, and then there's another one coming out next year that includes those two ? How do you know this ?

I'm curious for more information as well. What set with what content? Another version of the shorts in addition to the Kino and Eureka/MoC sets with the newly-restored versions of the shorts?

So would I.

At least we're fortunate enough to have a good copy of Godless Girl on the Treasures From the American Film Archives DVD collection #3.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I've got the bug and would love to see an update to the OP.

I've been building my Silents collection and have a handful of essentials that are out that I'll be grabbing.

I don't want to turn this into a wishlist thread, but what important works are still missing on blu? I'd love some education here, friends. Can we reasonably expect Pandora's Box and The Wind? Anyone know who has them since the Criterion PB dvd is oop and as far as I know The Wind has never been available on disc in the Us...?

Default Where are the silents ?

Looking for some of the classics I used to have on laserdisc. Mark of Zorro, Don Q Son Of Zorro, The Wind, The Crowd, Greed, Broken Blossoms, The Iron Mask, It. Who has the rights to these, why are there no Blu-ray editions of these staples of the silent era?

Half of those are with Warner, who don't care about silent films (The Big Parade being their only Blu-ray release), and the other half are not part of any major studio catalogue and therefore are dependant on third-party institutions for restorations and distribution.

Well, technically Warner did also release The Ten Commandments (1923) as part of The Ten Commandments Ultimate Collector's Edition. But yeah, those classics are still awaiting release on blu.

Actually not. That's just a Paramount title that Warner did distribution for. It was originally released in 2011, before Warner-Paramount distribution deal took effect in 2013.

Warner did include 1925 version of Ben-Hur as a special feature on the Blu-ray of the 1959 film, much like Paramount did with The Ten Commandments, but it was in SD only.

I'm hoping for Criterion to pick up some of the Warner titles as part of their licensing deal, but don't count too much on it, because Criterion doesn't care that much for silents either.

I didn't see any mention of Filcker Alley's Early Women Filmmakers set. There is also a Kino set with the same theme and (I hope) different films coming maybe late this year.
