![]() My personal problems are the developers seem like they couldn't decide on the identity they wanted the game to have and mashed a bunch of ideas together. Part of it wants to be a real-time battle RPG like Tales, part of it wants to be a MMO while missing what makes a MMO tolerable, part of it wants to be Monster Hunter etc. Just feels like a complete mess to me of a game with no identity because they tossed too much in the blender. Then on top of that it feels lazy. Hold down L1 when you see an attack start to dodge without having to time the dodge. Once you watch the animation parry the attack instead of a parry requiring perfect timing. Hold down attack to keep attacking while you look away from the screen instead of having to worry about the exact timing of the attacks. Hype up this big battle that you can go find a summon to win in one attack. All while your TV gets a tube of Vaseline dumped on it. But again not everybody will have the same opinion and nobody is nuts if they do enjoy it or vice versa. For me like I said a lot of work will need to be done to make me care about the final product because in this state it is one of the least enjoyable experiences I have had on PS4 to date. Which is a shame because Final Fantasy XIV was finally a game that made me a bit more optimistic Square could do something right again. |

I'll get back to it later today and play. It's been fun so far, but somewhat overwhelming. Ace has these attacks and other than wall, I don't know what they fully do. And there are 13 other characters that are playable. As far as the FF XV demo is concerned it should be installed and ready to go when I get home. |

Yeah, I seem to remember the Moggles saying that in 13 and 13-2 (the only two I've played). Anyway, this one is quite a bit different and I have no idea what I'm doing but I didn't in 13 or 13-2 at first either so that's not surprising.
Edit: Tried the demo but had to stop because it was giving me a motion sickness type of headache for some reason. Last edited by owa; 03-19-2015 at 12:28 AM. |

The graphics are just so so and I thought it was weird that it blocks recording and screenshots during part of the beginning. You have 3 characters (I think it was) that you can switch between as you're playing and some are better suited for certain types of battles. As someone else mentioned already, it's bloodier than the other ones I've played and so far has a more war-like feel to it. I don't really understand the combat enough to know what I'm doing yet but have made it through a few of the battles where it is mostly showing me how to play. The characters move a little too fast for me so I'm not use to the camera/movement controls yet and didn't check to see if I could make it less sensitive thinking it was probably that way for a reason. I haven't played it long enough to say much more than that.
Edit: varmintx has posted a few screenshots of Type-0 HD in the screenshot thread. |

I tried this game but can barely play it because the camera causes these weird jerks which give me almost instant motion sickness.
I basically have to play what is, in theory, a 3d area where I can spin the camera around the player and can't move the camera. Total failure IMO. |

It has to be noted that the graphics are rough. Given that it's a remastered PSP game, I had lowered expectations, and the art direction itself isn't bad, but there is a strange filter over the game that makes everything look blurry. It reminds me of those Double Dragon or Golden Axe re-releases with the smoothing filter on. I hope I don't sound overly negative, I really hoped to enjoy the game and I'm not giving up on it, but so far it's been a bit average. Hopefully it's just one of those games that takes a while to settle into a groove. Last edited by ariakon; 03-19-2015 at 06:47 PM. |

It's not the speed of the camera bothering me, it's the jerkiness. If you stand in a spot and spin the camera next to the university, the building and people jump around for no discernible reason, like one frame is way offset every few seconds.
I'm not sure what they did wrong but ugh. I actually find the combat interesting. It was refreshing to actually need to dodge in a FF game before the 20 hour mark to win a battle. |

I'm reminded of Resonance of Fate where after struggling getting my head around the combat system, I just decided to stop advancing in the game and just do battles until I figured out exactly what to do. A large portion of that time was spent learning the moves of all the characters and deciding which I was the most comfortable with. There were 3 clear favorites: Sice, Seven, and King, but I can use Ace if none of those 3 are primed. It's then a matter of putting the right supporting characters in to compliment your main. I still haven't gotten comfortable switching them on the fly for specific needs, but I assume I'll be forced to as the number of abilities, and situations needed for them, open up.

FFXV demo shows good potential for the actual game, Type-0 however has terrible clunky camera. I understand it was that way due to the PSP version, but they could have fix that in this remaster. They didn't, so it loses point in my book.
That said, I am among the many who got this for the demo. ![]() Last edited by Blu-Generation; 03-20-2015 at 10:03 AM. |
