The Duke and the review he posted are actually correct. Here's one version of the chain e-mail, which is where God Is Not Dead got the "inspiration" for its story:
[Show spoiler] And here are some parodies: (These are meant to be humorous and not intended as an attack on anyone's faith, just mocking the chain e-mail.) Quote:

![]() God’s Not Dead Blu-ray (brief user review) This God’s Not Dead movie is a low budget Christian movie from Pure Flix Entertainment. The budget for this movie was only 2 million dollars, however box office sells were over 62.6 million dollars since many in the Christian community loved this movie. In addition, the Dove foundation awarded this movie 5 Doves for a faith friendly movie. Rated PG. I enjoyed the fictional God’s Not Dead movie that is similar to some real life persecutions that Christians experience in the modern 21st Century. It was very interesting to watch the fictional character Josh defend his faith when his faith is attacked by an atheist Philosophy professor. I would have enjoyed this God’s Not Dead movie even more if Josh Wheaton would have used both the foundational history found in Genesis and science to defend his faith. Instead, Josh decides to use popular secular theories like billions of years and the big bang to try to defend the existence of God. There are so many unique storylines, plots, and sub plots in this God’s Not Dead movie. The God’s Not Dead movie has a very strong Gospel message with a goal of seeing people accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Martin Liebman wrote a very detailed review on the God’s Not Dead movie that was enjoyable to read. Blu-ray and DVD optical disc comments God’s Not Dead is Pure Flix Entertainments very first Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. The purpose of a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is that it allows families to play the lower quality 480i DVD version of the movie in every room, since some families have not upgraded all their DVD players to Blu-ray players yet. For those families that have 100% Blu-ray players there is no reason to even use the 480i DVD disc, since the exact same movie with all the bonus features also exists on the 1080P Blu-ray disc. The God’s Not Dead 480i DVD disc uses a total of 7.85GB on the 8.5GB dual layer disc. The God’s Not Dead 1080P Blu-ray disc uses 20.6GB of space on the 25GB single layer Blu-ray disc. Video quality The 20.6GB single layer 1080P Blu-ray image of God’s Not Dead uses the MPEG-4/AVC codec at around 25Mbps for some scenes. In addition, the main menu and all the extra features on this Blu-ray disc is 1080P quality while using the MPEG-4/AVC codec. God’s Not Dead was shot on a RED ONE camera using a Redcode RAW 4.5K source format. Digital Intermediate was 2K. The 1920 x 1080P resolution on the Blu-ray had some very nice natural detail with excellent color accuracy. Overall I was happy with the excellent picture quality. A dual layer 50GB Blu-ray disc using a higher bit rate MPEG-4/AVC encode in theory would have looked even better. English SDH and Spanish SDH subtitles is a feature on this Blu-ray disc for those that want or need it. Audio quality I was disappointed that Pure Flix Entertainment does not offer a lossless soundtrack for this Blu-ray release. 99.9% of secular Blu-ray movie releases receive a lossless soundtrack. Pure Flix Entertainment should have taken their 5.1 PCM studio master sound mix and ported it over to the Blu-ray using either 5.1 PCM, 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio, or 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. Instead, Pure Flix Entertainment ported over the exact same lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack that is located on the DVD disc. I hope that future Pure Flix Entertainment Blu-ray titles start using a lossless soundtrack. The English 5.1 Dolby Digital (448kbps) lossy soundtrack and the Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital (448kbps) lossy soundtrack sounded fairly good. These are true 5.1 audio mixes with active subwoofer activity and some surround sound mixes once and a while. I have heard better surround sound mixes, however overall the God's Not Dead mix was ok with dialog easy to understand coming from the center channel. Bonus Features I enjoyed the Bonus Features on the God’s Not Dead Blu-ray. My only complaint is that no audio commentary track was created for this movie. Pure Flix Entertainment appears to be moving away from audio commentaries on some of their more recent Blu-ray releases. It takes time and it costs more money to create an audio commentary track. All the extra features for the God’s Not Dead Blu-ray uses 1080P resolution and MPEG-4/AVC codec. Most of the trailers use 5.1 Dolby Digital (448kbps). All the rest of the extra features uses English 2.0 Dolby Digital (192kbps). Behind the Scenes lasts 8 minutes and 44 seconds. Chasing The Sun official music video by Safe Haven lasts 3 minutes and 41 seconds. What I Know music video by Tricia Brock lasts 4 minutes and 3 seconds. Students Rights On University Campuses lasts 4 minutes and 40 seconds. Trailers:Upcoming releases by Pure Flix: God’s Not Dead Theatrical Trailer, Believe, Redeemed, Revelation Road: Black Rider, and Mickey Matson and the Pirates Code. Conclusion God’s Not Dead is a very interesting fictional Christian movie. Some of the persecution of Christians in the movie is similar to persecution that some Christians have experienced in real life. This movie has a strong Gospel message and is very enjoyable among evangelical Christians. Some atheists might also like this movie since the movie is a big debate between a Christian student and an atheist professor. The God’s Not Dead Revisited article by the Answers in Genesis organization was an interesting read.
The following are select quotes from the August 5th 2014 article “As I stated in the introduction, the movie God’s Not Dead presents many commendable ideas and actions. However, it is not free from error. And as I have demonstrated above, those errors are somewhat subtle. I can understand how someone watching the movie could misunderstand the nature of the arguments being made, especially if you are already thinking from a biblical creation perspective as you enter the experience.” “Any question about whether the intent was to promote the big bang and millions of years in the movie were laid to rest by the book’s explanation.” God’s Not Dead Revisited |

I noticed that as well; it was far less "in-your-face" than something like the original "Left Behind" trilogy, which I felt turned more people away. Making a high-quality movie with a positive theological message is very difficult, but this one seems to have pulled it off.

God’s Not Dead II is coming to theaters Easter 2016 according to Pure Flix Entertainments latest movie catalog.
It appears that for the year 2015 there might be only one Pure Flix Entertainment movie released on the Blu-ray format. Pure Flix Entertainemnt now has their streaming service up and running which decreases the demand for Blu-ray releases. I just created a thread for Do You Believe with a brief user review. Do you believe? Blu-ray (Pure Flix Entertainment) Last edited by HDTV1080P; 08-22-2015 at 02:31 AM. |

Well i enjoyed 90% of the film, until the last 10 mins, i don't know, just having the professor renouncing his atheism before he died and then having two ministers standing over his body smiling saying it's a joyous occasion just didn't sit right with me at all!

Well, I finally got around to buying the Blu-Ray, and look forward to watching it again. There's some folks from my Dad's side of the family who have never seen a movie about apologetics; hopefully they'll sit down for this.
From a Christian perspective, another soul saved is always an occasion to rejoice; that's what the filmmakers were aiming to show. Don't confuse that with apathy or cruelty about death in itself. |
