17 months between the box and individual releases for the Jurassic Park films.
9 - 12 months between the box and individual releases for the Universal Monsters films.
12 - 18 months between the box and individual releases for the Hitchcock films.

The theatrical cut of 1941 is now available on Netflix streaming.....I hope this isn't what is used for the BD, it looks horrid.

I wish they took this opportunity to do Munich and make it exclusive with this set for few months to make this set must buy for fans who got individual releases of the movies in this set.

You do understand how non-scope widescreen movies are made, don't you?

Duel is supervised by Steven Spielberg. I rest my case.

I do, but that's not the case, because this isn't a widescreen movie. It's a full-screen movie made for TV....

If this ever hits $50, I might pick it up...$12.50 per movie isn't bad (and I can sell my copies of E.T., Jurassic Park and Jaws and get more back).

Costco currently has this set for $69.99. I'm mostly interested in 'Always' from the set, but I'd love having copies of 'Duel' and '1941' as well. I have a passing interest in 'Sugarland Express' and I already own the other films in the set.

So, that's 4 movies that I don't already own. $70 / 4 = $17.50 each for those four films. Not a terrible deal. But, again, my interest in 'Sugarland Express' is minimal, so it's really $70 / 3 = $23.33 each.

I'm torn between ponying up the cash to get the three films I really want or waiting until either this set gets cheaper, or the three films are released individually.

Decisions, decisions!

Mark

Munich is Universal and it isn't included either.

Still, it should be apparent that Schindler's List and Munich aren't in the same ballpark as the others included tonally.

$35 US from Amazon Canada is an amazing price, and from the photos it looks like it doesn't have the usual hideous bilingual packaging.

Don't trust Amazon.ca to be sure of the packaging. I've never seen this Blu-ray box set anywhere in Canada to purchase at an actual store. I've saw the DVD at Costco when it first came out, and if memory serves me correct, it didn't have bilingual packaging.

Munich was a Universal/DreamWorks Co-Production. I believe Universal held the North American distribution rights, as the current Blu-ray is distributed through them. It could be something to do with the licensing and distribution rights because if being co-produced by DreamWorks that it wasn't included. But as you said, tonally it doesn't make sense for it to be included. And all that DreamWorks distribution and ownership is a mess also.

No matter what though, that set had to be approved by Spielberg. He has say in what can and cannot be included. For all we know, Universal might have wanted to included Schindler's and Munich, but Spielberg didn't approve.

It would be a whole lot more interesting from a collectors standpoint, to see Universal and Warner Bros. put out Amblin Box Sets.

I know I'm probably missing a few titles here and there. Amblin has made a pretty profound impact on film; a lot if 80's and early 90's pop culture in there.
