Maybe you could include either dvds with the blu rays or perhaps a #3 list just to differentiate between them as there are some good movies which may never get a blu ray release which would be informative for those looking. One stand out scene was early in Giant when a steam engine passed in the distant background behind Rock Hudson, it was brief but a great shot for those how love steam. There is a bit of train action in East Of Eden as well.

Well, thanks to this thread, I decided to revisit the Blu-ray of DENVER & RIO GRANDE -- fun film, lots of wonderful train footage, gorgeous scenery, and mostly beautiful HD Technicolor transfer (a few minor issues here and there).

To keep in the mood, afterwards I watched the Laurel & Hardy short taking place 99% on a train, BERTH MARKS, which is only on DVD but the transfer is really amazing, better than many Blu-rays, even projected on a big screen. Sure wish that set would make it to Blu-ray.

Now that you've got two lists, another great movie on Blu-ray with a substantial train sequence at the beginning is THE MUSIC MAN.

Shanghai Noon could fit into List #2

The train scenes aren't essential to the plot ... but the starting shows a good number of scenes about them riding on the train, at first at odds with one another and then as the movie progresses that changing...

This is a bit eclectic, but:

Blu Ray List 1: Might include " The Titfield Thunderbolt", "Water for Elephants", "Hugo".

Blu Ray List 2: Might include "The Natural" (1st 3rd), "Argento's Sleepless" (memorable 1st 1/4),
"49th Parallel" (truly great 2nd half), "The Red Shoes" (memorable finale), "Strange love of Martha Ivers" (memorable 1st 1/4).

If you were to include memorable scenes in train stations Brian De Palma would certainly have a few mentions like "Carlito's Way" and "The Untouchables"; not to mention "Casablanca" "Harry Potter (all?)" and "Young Frankenstein".

For your second list, Water For Elephants features a train pretty heavily and in some crucial scenes.

Fried Green Tomatoes includes a pivotal scene involving a train.

A chunk of Dumbo takes place on a train.

Stand By Me features a pretty heavy train theme.

I'm planning to do that (create a third "bonus" list of DVD releases that fit the criteria for blu-ray list #1) once I get caught up on all of the new suggestions people have posted. I'm mostly there, but it will take a bit more time.

My guess is that not many people have seen it (myself included). Can you give a summary of the train content?

What about Brief Encounter? (It has been so long since I've seen the film it seemed like so much of it took place at the train station.

I suppose to make the list more than half the film should take place on a train or surrounding it. Otherwise Some Like It Hot could be an honorable mention.

I do like listings like this, to be honest I'm always watching movies based on my mood. So rainy days I try to come up with lists of films where it seems rainy/ gloomy much of the time. It can go from Don't Look Now, to Godzilla (rainy Remake) Blade Runner, Clue, Seven (until the ending of course)
