Just finished P.T. and here's what worked for me with the end puzzle:

[Show spoiler]For starters, I had my PS4 mic plugged in and my flashlight was white (i.e., not colored). I started in the corridor by standing right next to the clock while the bells began to chime. As soon as they ended, I took ten steps down the hallway and stopped next to the bathroom door. This immediately triggered the first laugh. A few minutes later, I went up to the phone and targeted it with the right thumbstick click, and said "Hey, hello" into the microphone. This prompted the second laugh, followed by my controller beginning to rumble. I made sure not to press anything or move at all during the rumbling, and immediately after, I got my third laugh and the phone started to ring. I targeted it with the right thumbstick and a voice on the line said "You've been chosen." I went to the reboot door at the end of the hallway and voila! Silent Hill cutscene... (Also, in previous attempts, I've found that reading the "I can hear them calling me from Hell" writing on the wall, followed by immediately going and checking the phone is another reliable way to get that first laugh.)

At this point, it's pretty obvious that it's pretty random, but I figured that I'd share anyway, just in case it helps anyone at wit's end trying to figure out that last puzzle.

Also? This was incredibly well done video game horror... Makes Outlast seem almost lame by comparison, IMO.

I'm sold on this game due to the fact that we're playing as Daryl.

As for the first person gameplay, I'm not quite sold on that aspect since SH has pretty much been third person despite The Room, but it's not something that's going to put me off.
I'll wager a guess that a third person mode will at least be included. I felt for this game they were deliberately keeping you away from the identity of the character to give the reveal of Norman Reedus more impact. The first person perspective does just that.

Also Kojima and his studio have primarily done third person games with Snatcher being the exception.

It will be third person, Kojima confirmed they had to tone down the demo to make it less obvious that it was a Silent Hill game, one of the changes was the first person perspective to prevent giving away the main character would be played by Norman Reedus, just like you said...

The first thing that struck me is the lifelike graphics. I just got a PS4 and I was blown away by how real everything looks, like I'm actually there, or watching a movie. I'm also playing it on a 92" projector with 5.1 surround in a house with all the lights off. This is scarier than any game I've played or movie I've watched, by far, and I'm a huge horror fan. Like someone else said, it must be because with a movie you can detach yourself from the events. This is more immersive. It's like a lucid nightmare that gradually keeps getting worse. I had to take a break because of how tense I was. My chest was tight and I kept looking over my shoulder. I played again but had to stop and play The Last of Us. Playing the full game is going to be impossible. AWESOME job!

Probably in part because it isn't on PS3, unfortunately.

I will hopefully play this demo in a few hours when I get home! Sounds like this game will be a day one buy!

For those having issues resolving the final puzzle, IGN is reporting they found the solution which consists of two steps,
[Show spoiler]waiting for the baby laughter and making noises in your headset, as if you were screaming scared.... will try tonight when I get home, if that works... it is genius... but a pain in the ass for those who do not have a headset...

IGN P.T. final puzzle solution

Tbh I don't mind it not being on PS3, of course I really want to play the P.T. but the more PS4 only games the more of a reason to actually go ahead and buy one. Once the likes of MGS5, Tekken 7, FF15 & Silent Hills are close to release I'll probably finally pick one up.

It's not a demo because none of the gameplay is representative of the actual Silent Hills game. When you complete the teaser, it clearly states that. To me, it's certainly interactive, and it definitely qualifies as a true "teaser", so, personally, I have no problem with them calling it P.T. As always, your mileage may vary...

Yeah, not sure PS3 could handle this version of the FOX engine!

That's good then because I prefer playing SH in third person.

Though the only downside is that when you see Norman Reedus aka Daryl, some fear is lost because you know Daryl can just kill the enemies in his sleep.

Surely I can't be the only one that was itching for a crossbow the entire demo? Maybe Beth is in Silent Hill/s.

Ok, I got to a part that made me jump and yell F***!

DeadSpace was the last game that did that, so I will more than likely buy this! I wonder if the new Alien Isolation will be as scary as this?

I liked the couple of hours that I played it, but normally this is not my type of game, not the horror stuff, but the looking at things at different stages to solve a puzzle.

But I'm definitely wanting more. I like the names involved, I like the atmosphere and yet I've never played a Silent Hill game.

The actual game is likely going to be very different. A different perspective, much more story, maybe combat, that type of thing. There is clue hunting in Silent Hill, but usually not a ton. This is a different team, though, so everything is up in the air.

IGN P.T. final puzzle solution

I could not for the life of me get past the last part. Probably 10 hours of wandering around looking at everything. Finally deleted my game and started over. Blew through it in about 5 minutes and did this at the end step

[Show spoiler]covered the light bar on the controller so the ghost wouldn't see me.

This trigered the ending on the first try. That would be one hell of a coincedence to get it on the very first try after 10 hours of nothing. I think my solution worked for me. Try it out

This teaser is really friggin' scary to put is nicely. The visuals are fantastic, despite the developers holding back as not to make it look too polished. The mood and atmosphere is frightening. I screamed at one point, and I'm a 28 year old man playing it in the middle of the day.

Even though I'm not typically a big fan of horror games, I had to play to the end. Unfortunately after hours of trying I just couldn't complete it. I held in there, getting chills and jumping every few minutes. I still want to get back in there.

I played it before I knew what the hell it was, other than a mysterious free horror title on the Playstation store. It wasn't until I found out Guillermo Del Toro was involved that it made sense it was so scary. That guy's brilliant.

I look forward to getting the s&@t scared out of when the full game comes.
