True, but that stuff would be no more difficult to pull off than what the team have already been doing on TNG. It's all that ship-to-ship stuff in the later seasons that's piling on the agony for the CBS bean counters.

That's very true. Phasers, everyones favorite snowflake, etc were all early cgi so Odo isn't going to be a headache for them, it is going to be redoing those huge battles that is the problem. Even with the ship files, those all need to be re-rendered and that takes time and money. That's why I don't think it will be within a year but I am betting we will have them all within 5 years. Milk as much money as you can from the TNG releases, make sure there is an audience for this and wait a little more for the price to drop. TNG should be an eye opened to a lot of studios that remastering old shows can work - hopefully a few more get on board, the price drops and DS9 and Voyager get the benefit. I think though doing Emissary as a standalone disc soon would be smart to get people interested in this, especially if they did like the TNG ones and did some behind the scenes stuff.

Yep. It's a 3D object matter of fact.

Well, yes. But Season 1 has plenty of CG work with the transporters, phasers, animation, matte paintings, etc.

Sorry about the way that is worded...
Sorry to rain on the parade, but there will be no trailers for either TAS or DS9. Neither project has been green-lit. The only trailers will be for existing TNG sets (and perhaps ENT).

I did hear, however, that when they rebuilt the Birthright TNG/DS9 crossover that the remaster team requested—and got—from the salt mine *all* of the reels of film for the first season of DS9. If they weren't shipped back after that, they are ready and waiting at CBS-D for a green light from the brass.
Nope, sorry. They grabbed the reels relevant for Birthright but certainly not the whole of DS9 Season 1.

They looked at a few additional reels to confirm some information about aspects of DS9's visual effects while they were first considering a DS9 remastering, but this was just for a cursory check. Nothing more. Everything has now been returned to deep storage.

It was actually a mix. Mostly CG, but there were some practical elements in there too. Took a heck of a lot of time and money to produce the effect back in '92.

Weren't the transporters in TNG a mix too? I thought it was mentioned on one of the documentaries along with the phasers but without any real detail. I am assuming the sparkles were real but the rest were early cgi as well, plus the old school fading effect.

Finally!! Now my entire TNG collection will be complete.

Can't believe the money I spent on these. I spent an average of $50 per set and $13 each for the standalone movies. Probably one of the most expensive TV collections I own, but worth every penny.

I wonder how All Good Things is going to benefit from a stand-alone release, since It's not a combined 2-parter, it's already a 2-hour episode. They could just have included whatever extras they had for it on the main release, and done the stand-alone disc for Descent instead.

I don't know much about DS9, but, Voyager had 1/4 of the budget of STNG. I don't know if either one was shot & edited the same way, if so, then chances are very low they will give it the same treatment. I don't really know, but, I'm guessing that these two were shot & edited on professional video tape. I could be wrong. Either way, If anything, just to give it more airplay now that TV is going 720p & up and demand HD masters, they might just upscale the masters to 720p for airplay. ...I just don't think they will spend the money to remaster to 1080p. I was dumbfounded at Warehouse 13 being only released on DVDs when the show was likely mastered at 1080p (wikipedia says it aired at 1080i, which is the limit for most cable/sat TV, and the most I've seen for syfy.), so I don't see any DS9 or Voyager blus in the future. Despite the ones that want it, they just were not as popular, nor as well done as TNG. I'd like to see Voyager in HD, but, not expecting it. Just trying to be realistic here. (Voyager is my second fav. ST TV series. I've tried to get into DS9, but, it just doesn't work for me. Even so, I can rewatch TNG much more easily than V.)

4K TNG movies? Since Paramount has already released all of the Star Trek movies in 1080p on blu, I would be surprised to see this. Perhaps 2009/2013 ST movies will eventually be in 4K, but, I don't see them going back.

That being said, it would be nice to get director's cuts of the movies in 1080p BDs.

Can't wait to finally own the whole series on Blu! Sure beats watching on TNN/Spike/G4/BBC TV channels or renting the VHS tapes from the library!
Especially since these channels air versions of the episodes that have a couple/few minutes cut out to add more commercials. (Better to watch on Netflix, not cut there. Maybe not cut on HuluPlus either, plus, Hulu has some seasons in HD already.)

DS9 looks like it would be mind-blowing in HD. The sample image looks incredible.

Since the art department spoke more on DS9 than on TNG (which really sucked for me) on the special feature on STNG s4 BDs, I think I recall that the wormhole effect was done by ILM, and that the first (2-hours/2-part?) episode had a lot more involvement or budget or something than the rest of the series. But, I'm not a good source, don't know a lot about DS9.

Of course it does, but those aren't the obstacles to getting DS9 done. My point is that on the back of the work they did on TNG they should already have plenty of routines that can do all that 'regular' stuff, which would cost no more than what it does for TNG. Heck, even the Odo stuff always looked extremely fake so there's no need to drop too much $$$ to get him looking like the T-1000 for the HD version. It's the ship-based CG for the later seasons that's giving CBS kittens.

All of STAR TREK (series, feature films) until the 4th season of ENTERPRISE was shot on 35MM film, including the Animates Series. ENTERPRISE Season 4 was done with HD cameras.

STAR TREK (2009) was shot 35MM anamorphic. INTO DARKNESS was shot with a combination of 35MM anamorphic and 70MM IMAX cameras.

All it needs is a nice case like this
Actually, that is what I am using. My sister found a set at a garage sale and bought it for me. Don't need the tapes so I replaced them with the blu-rays.
