Default 2-D IMAX release of Transformers:Age of Extinction

I know many of us want a 2-D IMAX release of Transformers:Age of Extinction on BD, so here you can voice your opinion, and hopefully cause them to rethink their strategy.

I mostly refuse to go to the theatre, because in my city blockbusters are only shown in 3-D on big screens, and the 2-D screenings are in tiny rooms, so I usually wait for the BD release, as I don't enjoy 3-D.

I am aware that TF:AoE was only shown in IMAX in 3-D, but the 2-D version should be made available IMO.

I refuse to purchase this film on BD, or any other format, until a 2-D IMAX version becomes available.

Paramount is commended for including the bonus disc with the 2-D version, but now they have committed an even graver mistake, one that cannot even be solved by getting the 3-D version. I don't have nor want 3-D equipment, so it would be impossible for me and many others to enjoy this film on BD the way it was meant to be seen.

Thank you for your support.

Can't you just turn off the 3d directly on your TV, even if the disc is 3d only?

No you can't, because a 2-D TV doesn't have a 3-D on/off switch.

On my pc I can watch a 3D disc in 2D, so it is possible. I did this with Transformers: Dark of the moon.

But yeah, I would love to see a 2D IMAX version similar to what they did with Transformers: Revenge of the fallen.

The crappy thing is the 3D encode is contrast and brightness boosted and lower bitrate so the picture quality is garbage

Gee, that's quite an uneven poll, isn't it?
I'm getting the current 3D release. Partly because I have a 3D Monitor and I can switch it off any time and enjoy the "IMAX 2D" from there. If and when there is an IMAX 2D Blu-ray in the future, I may get it at a low price.

I have a Samsung Smart TV that is 3D Capable. I can, at my discretion turn off the 3D and enjoy the film in Imax 2D. This is the reason I purchased a 3D Capable TV in the first place. However, I have a friend with a Sony TV who is not able to turn off the 3D function. if you set your player's 3D settings to an automatic "3D to 2D" then your TV will notify you that "You must have both a 3d capable player and TV".
it's just crappy altogether that the companies keep these distinctions separate. For instance, Doctor Strange 3D blu ray is Imax formatted, but not the regular Blu ray. Chris Nolan nailed it buy keeping IMAX readily available on blu ray releases such as Dark Knight and Interstellar.
Then reading (in my opinion) BS articles where studos decide not to release the Imax formatted versions on blu ray because of alleged complaintst hat the shifting aspect ratio is "Distracting". Star Trek: Into Darkness has 30 minutes of Imax footage that is not even available on the 3d version. You have to purchase the "Compendium" pack which has the first two blu movies.

I want to make sure I comprehend the technical aspects of the release. Helping out others on this site doesn't simply stop at titles you like.

I'd like to call it even and just get a release of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in it's original IMAX presentation.

Exactly.

Also, the picture quality is different from the 2-D transfer. The brightness is boosted to compensate for the darkness of 3-D etc.. The bitrate is lower....
It can't be compared.

I would absolutely buy an IMAX version of Age of Extinction on 2D with the changing aspect ratios like the "big screen edition" of Revenge of the Fallen.

In the meantime, I'll just settle for what's coming out next week.

I don't know how to answer this poll. I'm not sure what the differences would be between 2d and 2dimax. I see the 2dimax would be brighter. Thats definitely a pulse, but what else is different? There has to be more?

It wouldn't be brighter. Bluyoda wants a 2D version with variable aspect ratios.

It is an interesting topic though. Only Mr Bay could say if it would break how he wanted it to be shown. If he indeed only wanted the changing aspect ratio for 3d I do think the home release should only have it for the 3d release.
What was wrong with the 3D release for Dark of the Moon? I thought it was fine.

Here's what Michael Bay had to say about watching this movie in cinemas.
http://michaelbay.com/2014/06/21/mic...4-and-imax-3d/

Quote:
The best way to see this movie is definitely in IMAX 3D.
By far.
Why? Because for one, we did technically-excellent 3D in this film. We conceived and shot this movie with 3D cameras. So many movies use 3D as an afterthought.
We also are the first movie in the world to shoot with the new IMAX digital 3D camera. The AGE OF EXTINCTION was formatted for 2.40 for normal theaters. What makes the IMAX version of this film so different is that 60 percent of the movie opens up and fills the whole IMAX screen. It makes Transformers 4 such an immersive experience.
The second best way to watch ‘Age of Extinction’ is in a 3D theater featuring Dolby ATMOS sound. ATMOS is the next level in the surround sound experience. The sound not only wraps around from front to back and side to side, there is also a layer of sound above you. The audio will roll and spin around and above you while watching the spaceship chase scene in Age of Extinction.
See you at the movies.
Michael
And you know what? This 3D Blu-ray represents the best of both worlds.
Provided you have a huge ass screen and height speakers to measure up the experience. But otherwise, yes, he did intend for the VAR to be IMAX 3D exclusive only. And it remains so for the Blu-ray.

Recently, Guardians of the Galaxy also had VAR and it was only in IMAX 3D. As far as I know, there wasn't an IMAX 2D screening at all, let alone one with VAR. So I won't be surprised if that Blu-ray will have VAR on the 3D Disc only.
