the first one is PG-13 and always has been. the second was the only one ever rated R at one point

Nope, GHOULIES 1 was also cut down from an R rating to get a PG-13. From the MPAA:

not sure on pt 1 but i remember at mom an pop store when they went out of business, I bout 1-4 vhs and 2 had a R sticker on back I peeled away and it was pg-13...

Just watched Ghoulies 1. The picture is stunning, the doc is great, but sadly the commentary just doesn't cut it. After some really interesting info during the 1st 15 minutes, it becomes a real chore. A moderator on this could have made a huge difference.

Both GHOULIES 1 & 2 are the same versions we've always had, at least here in the States. The footage that was censored from GHOULIES 2 to lower its rating from an R to a PG-13 is actually available on the Blu as a deleted scenes section, but unfortunately wasn't placed back into the film. I guess the trimmed footage from part 1 hasn't been located.

Scream wanted to re-insert the footage for part 2 but part of the licensing agreement was that they left the excised footage out. Licensing agreements are strange sometimes.

I'm convinced I've seen a version of Ghoulies 1 that showed breasts at the beginning during the sacrifice scene. Either on one of the pay channels or vhs in the early 80s.

You probably did. There's a good number of folks that seem to remember the same thing. Given that HBO was free with cable tv in the early 80's it's likely that it was shown there which would explain why so many people remember uncut versions of the films, yet no one can seem to find the vhs tape to prove it.

I want to say TNT's Monstervision aired this version back in the late nineties, albeit I believe they blurred the breasts.

2 films, 1 disc.

I very quickly scanned my monstervision rip of Ghoulies, and assuming the female sacrifice/boobs people are talking about is at the very beginning of the film and not later on, then I can confirm that the monstervision broadcast did not include that particular scene.
