Because, deep down inside, Frogs is really a seriously awesome movie.

It happens because that amazing poster artwork will grab the 8-year-old boy in you every time!

American International hired some of the best artists to make their posters, and when you look at all of the AIP artwork, each movie looks amazing. Their posters and newspaper ads really sold their movies.

Frogs has always been a bit of an oddity to me. Is the title supposed to be ironic? I don't think any of the characters are actually killed by frogs, and the so-called "frogs" are mostly toads.

Also, what happened to Bella and the two servants? All of the black characters just sort of disappear, as though they were written out of the movie part way through. I've always been a bit disappointed by that, as Judy Pace's Bella is a way more interesting character than Joan Van Ark's final girl Karen.

Riffing aside, really fun disc from Scream Factory. Enjoyed the interviews, Belinda Balaski's story about Ida Lupino's departure from the picture was a riot.

Even though Empire Of The Ants was my favorite of these four creature features Scream Factory released, I'd say the Food Of The Gods / Frogs Double Feature is probably the better value. But buy them both, all four movies are great additions to any cult movie fan's collection.

I received a treasure trove of Screams from the recent sale, and when it came to deciding what to watch first, The Food of the Gods proved too delectable to pass up.

The image of a giant, rampaging rooster on the back cover sold me. This was my first ever viewing of the film.

My thoughts:

[Show spoiler]The first half of TFOTG establishes various characters, meandering in the woods for a spell, but the proceedings are wonderfully campy from the outset. The location photography on and around Bowen Island in British Columbia is excellent, lending the film a hint of legitimacy despite its ultra campy plot-line and effects.

The second half of the film is gloriously awesome. Once the army of giant rats swarm into the picture, and our protagonists are forced to barricade themselves inside a farm house, the movie finds its legs (literally, and figuratively).

The siege is awesome and reminded me of similar scenarios in other flicks like Dog Soldiers and the Night of the Living Dead, with TFOTG being a much campier cousin.

Overall, The Food of the Gods comes highly recommended from this lover of nature-set horror, siege flicks, and camp monster movies, because it satisfies all three cravings.

I tried to watch my DVD of Frogs years ago and just couldn't get into it. I'll give it another spin someday to see if the blu-ray breathes new life into it... or if it still croaks.

I purchased the double feature for Food of the Gods, and to clear shelf space. Frogs is just a curiosity... and a bonus. And the double feature is totally worth it for Food of the Gods.

I was the exact opposite. I used to love watching Frogs on television when I was a teenager, and my heart soared when I found out that it was coming out on Blu-ray.

I've always enjoyed The Food of the Gods as well, but Frogs is the clear main attraction for me, and it looks awesome on this disc.

This double-feature is one of the most worthwhile Scream Factory releases. It's just great 1970s fun across the board.

It sounds like I need to reevaluate Frogs sooner rather than later. To be fair, years ago when I watched it, I probably didn't give it the attention it needed anyway.

Oddly enough, the older I get and the more films I watch, the more I've come around to embracing much of the schlock I dismissed when I was younger.

I mean, I made it through the VS release of The Bees. That was dreadful, without much to redeem it aside from John Saxon. I think they used popcorn to represent the bees in most of the shots. I can do this...

This looks to be out of print, but looking at the trailer for Frogs, I'm not sure I want to go out of my way to find it anywhere. Most of the animals in the trailer aren't even frogs...

It’s a ridiculously fun film IMO. Definitely not a masterpiece, but I enjoy watching it, especially around 4th of July when it takes place. Good cast too with Sam Elliott, Ray Milland, and Joan Van Ark. It’s also PG, so it’s not bad for kids too.

Never watched Food of the Gods though, even though I’ve owned it on Blu-ray for years.

Sometimes AIP would come up with a poster first, then write and make a movie to go with the poster.

Kind of related, I'm wondering why Frogs is the second most popular 1970s title at IMDb this week. The Frogs IMDb page apparently got more views than Star Wars and Taxi Driver.

Did Frogs get a new MST3K commentary or something? or is it mentioned in some new movie? just curios

I remember seeing this in the theater with my friends when we were kids and we were all disappointed that not only are there no giant frogs in it, but no one gets eaten by a frog...

So true. But just the idea of Ray Milland being pounced on by a frog of any size was enough to satisfy me when I saw it. The sounds of nature overwhelming everything toward the end are pretty creepy and who hasn't felt threatened late at night alone listening to all the crickets out there planning their massive attack?

I always got a laugh out of wondering how they performed their murderous deeds. We see them gather, we see a terrified potential victim, then we cut away and come back later to find that person dead. No explanation of how being surrounded by numerous frogs becomes lethal.

Apparently their victims were simply frogged to death.

I've seen a frog play a banjo and sing songs and ride a bicycle in movies so anything is possible, believe me.

There also the giant frog that shot down model airplanes with it's laser eyes.
