What is your beef with this movie? You seem very wanting.of failure for it.
It's unnecessary to even bother after 20 years. The first film is one of my favorite comedies but this just seems like a soulless sequel.

I would think with it being one of your favorite comedies, you'd be excited at the prospect of a new movie. I know I am, and I grew up watching the first one. Nostalgia can get the better of me though

Nostalgia means really nothing to me when it comes to movies.

Seriously. A production budget of $5M, and it will surpass $50M domestic? What are they waiting for?

Maybe hold out the hate until you actually see it?

IMO, it's just as good as the first one.

Who cares when it was made, as long as they did it right. Hell, next year will be the 30th anniversary of THE GOONIES and I'd see them all back together in a heartbeat.

SOULLESS would be some remake crap for the tweener crowd.

I'm going to pass on it, many of my peers say it's rubbish and that is good enough for me. But this thread is about the film's box-office, hate really has nothing to do with it.

Wow really... The only people that were really laughing at the film were the kids in the theater, the parent bringing them were not that impressed. Outside of the jokes ruined by the trailers, there may have been four or five good laughs.

I would agree, the film isn't soulless, but the comedy really seemed a bit forced and poorly timed. (Obviously, they had the smarts to go a bit meta early on, nailing one joke.)

The top three went:
Dumb and Dumber To ($39M)
Big Hero 6 ($36M)
Interstellar (-39%)

It is for sure for a lot of people, myself included. I went to go see Dumb and Dumber To last night, and no critic or user opinions would have phased me in the slightest. Me and my friends went to see the first one when we were 12 and it's been one of my favorites ever since. Bringing back the Farrelly Brothers and the original actors pretty much had me running to the theater.

That being said, if I had a time machine, I would go back and tell myself not to bother. Definitely one of the biggest letdowns in a while. I'm a little mind-boggled that the original creators and actors came up with this and released it. IMO they don't seem to understand or remember at all what made the original film work. This new film is more akin to that prequel movie that came out 10 or so years back.
