Three and a half year bump.
I find this poll insulting towards 2001. |

In regards to how a film could reshape and influence the industry and people's imagination, 2001 is the best out of these three films. My 2nd choice would be Gravity over Interstellar, although I love that film also. There are some issues I have the narrative which include how Cooper's son is not as integral to the story as Murph, Brand's unexplained love for a man she never knew, and Nolan's back and forth between IMAX and other anamorphic aspect ratios. Gravity, while unintentionally funny at one point, is an unique take on disaster movie scenarios with special effects and 3D effects that I rarely praise and keeping it a leaner short time left me less to question about than the near 3 hour story that Nolan directed.

Gravity is a plotless rollercoaster ride. It is very entertaining and the Atmos track is out of this world.
Interstellar is awesome and everything about it is done in a masterful way. I love the water and ice planets. 2001 is well made for its time, but I do not love it. Sorry. |

That's exactly my view. 2001 is infinitely more historically important, I saw a re-release of it in a cinema in 2008, I own it, and I watch it often. But if it lacks one thing, it's heart....something Interstellar had in bucket loads, that film moved it more than any other film that year.

Interstellar is in my top ten of all time, but I stilled voted for 2001. I cannot deny how groundbreaking 2001 truly was and what is still to this day the greatest masterpiece of cinema.

Best? 2001: A Space Odyssey (regardless of how god-awful slow and nutty it is)
Favorite? Gravity (regardless of how "overrated" people say it is) But Interstellar is still awesome in its own right (regardless of how many plot holes people love to point out in it) Out of the three, Gravity feels like the odd one out to me. This should really be a poll that compares all the space operas: Interstellar, 2001, the two versions of Solaris, Sunshine, and Silent Running...and anything else I missed. They all have their moments. |
