That would be really cool, only issue from my perspective is i know nothing about web design etc. I could write reviews of 3D and blu rays/ movies etc. but as far as the technical side goes i'm not so hot...

Critics love this one. 99% critic reviews of 87 reviews. Somehow it only has 1 rotten review (yesterday there were 2).
I rarely base my viewings on most critics, but it's still nice to see when they appreciate an action movie for a change.

This forum is a great place for 3D reviews from all 3D fans, to get a perspective from each viewer and cinema, but a new website would be something too.

Are you going to see it a couple times total? I do that for movies that I enjoyed so much I don't want to wait another four months to see it again on video. Most I ever saw a single movie in theaters was 4 times.

Sorry to hear about that. I would have thought by week 2, it'd still be playing regularly in 3D. During the summer though, I can imagine theaters with limited slots can only afford to show special versions (3D) for only so long before they have to add a new movie to fill the spot.
Cinemark is usually very good at supporting 3D versions.

Mad Max 3D should be something; looks like fun! I can imagine Miller is happy to see the positive reviews.
I'm seeing it today at 2PM and again on Saturday, both in Imax 3D. I expect to be very overwhelmed after today's viewing as this is an experience I've been waiting at least 20 years for since falling in love with the Mad Max trilogy as a teenager in the mid 90's. I am very much looking forward to what the 3D will deliver, here's hoping for a real kickass conversion. I'm expecting it will be good as Miller was apparently very invested in it.

You know what, I would love to get involved with something like that. If there's room count me in.

As you can tell I'm not the best for Punctuation, Commas and such and such. But I've done a little writing before and would live to get involved.

I would love to see this in 3D, but my husband REALLY wants to see this and he doesn't like 3D at all. So I'm deferring to him on this one. :-/

Although I was curious as to how good the 3D conversion would be on Mad Max given how most of the movie is actually practical effects and not CGI. Something like Jupiter Ascending should look good in 3D because much of the backgrounds and effects are already 3D CGI. But with Mad Max, you're dealing with a lot of elaborately tricked-out vehicles racing through a desert knocking up clouds of dust, all of which will be a lot of work to trace in 3D, especially considering the frenetic pace of the editing.

Is it true that the only 3D IMAX screenings for Fury Road in the US are at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and the Empire 25 in New York?

A lot of times I watch 2D in the theater and 3D at home. I have more control over the home experience anyway.

Quick response after seeing it, I'll be able to write my proper review later on. The movie is absolutely fantastic, balls to the wall insane and awesome, it's so intense, so well paced, so well acted and everything is just incredible. The 3D is fantastic too with a very well done conversion that really brings the world to life. It also has one of the greatest 3D shots ever towards the end!

A lot of manual conversion work, agreed. No easy task.

I can imagine how amped up you are to see a movie you've been waiting for that long. I feel the same way about seeing Star Wars VII finally move the plot forward with much of the original cast reunited as guides, instead of going backwards like the prequels did.

I'm guessing Fury Road is a sequel or a reimagining reboot?

The 3D volume isn't mapped out as well like in some recent 3D conversions but the layering most of the time is medium or a little above that, a few shots here and there are strong. Sounds like I'm being a bit tough on it, it's really solid 3D job and should be seen in 3D as there is an old school pop out shot that comes right out of the screen that is well done despite having bad CGI in that one shot. I won't go into detail on that shot as I don't want to spoil it. Definitely see it in 3D.

Mad Mad: Fury Road sounds like a balls to the wall movie! Looking forward to it. Sounds like a roller coaster ride of a movie. I'll keep an eye out for that 3D shot near the end, thanks!

Glad to hear the 3D is medium with some strong 3D. Anything but mild 3D and I'm satisfied.

This review has exhausted me! I'll probably have more to add after I see this again on Saturday but until then, here is my (spoiler free) review!

Mad Max Fury Road is absolutely everything a lifelong fan like me could hope for in a Mad Max sequel. I first fell in love with the franchise in the mid 90’s and absolutely adored Mad Max, Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Beyond Thunderdome actually has pretty much my favourite few minutes in any film ever made, those being the last few minutes of the movie, just the perfect ending. I’ve been dreaming since the mid 90’s about seeing another Mad Max movie on the big screen but I never actually thought it would happen. After looking forward to something for so long it’s very hard to temper my excitement and expectation but suffice to say that George Miller has made what may be the greatest action movie ever made. It is certainly the greatest action movie this decade and belongs right up there with Mad Max 2, Die Hard, The Raid, Speed to name a few. This is a staggering piece of work from a true visionary film maker. I’ve always been fascinated by visions of the apocalypse but none drew me in as much as the world George Miller created with the first three Mad Max movies. Fury Road takes his unique vision to a whole new level with spectacular new characters, an amped up portrayal of a desperate future, stunning action and captivating drama.

First things first Tom Hardy is the perfect replacement for Mel Gibson. By that I mean that he makes Max his own and doesn’t try to ape Gibson’s amazing performance. This is a new, different Max and Hardy brings a lot to the role which is especially impressive considering how little dialogue he has. He is a great physical actor and this is showed to perfection in Fury Road as he brings so much humour and dynamism to the physical side of things. This Max is still haunted and damaged by an alluded to past and he is thrust headlong into an insane nightmare and forced to adapt as best he can to survive. George Miller plunges you straight into this crazy world and doesn’t let up for a second. This is apparently a two hour movie but it honestly was the fastest two hours of my life, it felt like it was just an hour and a half, the pacing is absolutely insane and so effective. There isn’t an ounce of fat needing to be trimmed here, it all flows perfectly. Miller doesn’t explain anything, he just lets you figure it all out along the way and this is such a wonderful way to watch the story unfurl. It’s still churning over in my mind constantly, there is so much to take in and think about, so many brief details that stick in your mind and won’t go. Miller is a visual genius and he has crafted such a believable living and breathing world that one can only marvel at the effort that has gone into this movie.

Charlize Theron is easily Hardy’s equal and is magnificent as Imperator Furiosa. She is such a tough and unrelenting presence who drives the story forward with her determination and focus. She is absolutely capable on every level and takes no shit from anyone. Her and Hardy have so many great moments together, I lost count. Imperator Furiosa is a wonderful character and this is honestly the best I’ve ever seen Theron, she is truly a force to be reckoned with and is such a well crafted character that absolute credit must go to Miller and Theron for their brilliant work here. Hugh Keays-Burne is terrifying as the mysterious Immortan Joe, one of the best villains to grace cinema in a long time. For a start, his appearance is simply astounding, he is such an awesomely designed character with so much presence. I love the mask and breathing tubes, the long white hair and his see through breastplate with various medals. Who is this guy? What is his full story? Miller lets you piece together what you can from the various details as the story progresses. The Citadel itself, where Immortan Joe and his loyal follows reside is a stunning piece of design work. I look forward to the blu ray so I can take in all the little background details that I may have missed as there is so much that is only seen in the most scant of moments. The five stunning wives are wonderfully played by a great group of actresses, they are the perfect addition to this crazy world with an ethereal quality that stands out amongst all the stark despair. They have an innocence but have been through so much that they are more than capable at standing up for themselves when required. They are absolutely brilliant and look great in the movie as the most precious of cargos and Immortan Joe’s harem of breeders. This element of the story is quite fascinating and is a great idea as a narrative start point. Immortan Joe has so much power and his followers revere him as a god. The idea of this post apocalyptic warlord is the kind of stuff I have forever dreamed about seeing done justice in a movie like this and George Miller has given us a classic cinematic bad guy. Just like The Lord Humongous we know very little which only makes the character more effective and captivating. Who knows what horrors Joe has put the five wives though but one can only imagine. Rounding out the supporting players are Joe’s War Boys with Nicholas Hoult as Nux, a really wonderful character who is almost puppy dog like in his approach to things. He knows only the life he was brought into and initially like many others is a loyal follower of Immortan Joe and the crazy cult of the V8. The world building with these characters is second to none and done so effortlessly with so little explanation. Other movies would be laying out so many backstory details with dialogue scenes but Miller has more faith in his audience to piece it all together just from what he shows you. Nathan Jones is another fantastic addition as Rictus Erectus, one of Joe’s sons and an intimidating presence.

The story propels us forward and is relentless in its drive. The whole movie is more or less a non stop chase and this allows for pretty much the greatest action sequences in the history of film. The cinematography is stunning from DP John Searle as the camera swoops around the stunning vehicles and all out carnage ensues. The editing is perfect, giving us a clear sense of geography at all times and allowing for the narrative to flow seamlessly. The technical achievements on this movie deserve to go down in the annals of cinema history as it feels like a beautifully written piece of music, all timed and executed to perfection. The trailers certainly hinted that we were in for a visual treat but they only scratched the surface. I can honestly say that Mad Max Fury Road is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. Every shot will take your breath away and deserves to be analysed, from the complex and well choreographed action, to the serene and spectacular desert vistas and landscapes to the intricate design elements of The Citadel. The costumes are amazingly well put together and only help to add to the grit and dirt of this world. The music by Junkie XL fits everything perfectly and provides not only a charging and driving rhythm during the action scenes but atmospheric and haunting pieces during the quieter moments.

With stuntwork as amazing as this it really takes the audience back to an older style of film making, where all the action was real. There are a lot of CG enhancements that all blend in very well. These are mostly for backgrounds and the huge sandstorm sequence, which in itself is beautiful to behold, but seamless CG work is also provided for Furiosa’s mechanical arm and some of the more brutal scrapes. In lesser hands the relentless action could become tiresome but Miller knows how to stage and pace everything flawlessly so it never does. It’s rare to witness a tentpole movie as well crafted as this that has the action so expertly presented among a brilliant narrative. Mad Max Fury Road is pure joy to behold thanks to all the elements perfectly complementing each other. Usually in these kinds of movies certain things like character or story can get lost but not so here, everything is clearly drawn from the start and its pure brilliance from the opening moment until the credits role.

Mad Max Fury Road also benefits from a stunning and incredibly satisfying 3D conversion. I was fortunate enough to see this in Imax and it was a wonderful presentation. The 3D complements the movie perfectly with great depth and layers. The wide desert landscapes stretch out far into the horizon and the immense scale of The Citadel is quite beautiful. There are lots of fun pop out moments and one stand out moment in particular towards the end that is probably one of the greatest 3D pop out shots I’ve ever seen, it really took me by surprise as elements came right out of the screen. I loved the 3D in this and look forward to watching it again in 3D. Miller has gone on record as saying he put a lot of time and effort into the 3D conversion and he absolutely loves it and I can see why. Fury Road really goes to the next level in 3D and it helps make an amazing movie experience even better. This isn’t a movie that is ashamed to be in 3D, it’s a movie that fully embraces the format and I am very pleased that Miller is such a 3D fan and that he was able to ensure Fury Road delivers a stunning stereoscopic experience. If you can see this in 3D, I highly recommend it.

After twenty years of waiting I am absolutely delighted to have witnessed such an amazing piece of cinema and that the continuation of Mad Max is so brilliant. This movie has gone straight into my all time top ten favourite movies ever and I truly hope it does good business at the box office as I am desperate for more adventures in this vivid world. No movie is perfect and I can’t say Fury Road is but it comes pretty close and Miller deserves all the kudos in the world for his work here. This is truly the singular vision of a real artist and Mad Max Fury Road is a captivating piece of art that will go down in not just action movie history but cinema history. I will rewatch this movie over and over and recommend to anyone I know. It is rare that an action movie appeals to both sexes but with its strong female characters who stand up for themselves against a tyrannical maniac it will no doubt impress both men and women. I loved the strong female elements of the story and the progression of Max and Furiosa’s characters as they move through the narrative. It is hard for a movie to live up to so much expectation but Mad Max Fury Road has and does. I can’t stop thinking about the movie and all of the brilliantly realised ideas in it. This kind of cinematic vision is a rare beast and Fury Road looks and feels like no other movie in the last 30 years, thanks to the talent of its amazing crew and cast. On the road to movie Valhalla, it feels like we have just arrived.

Levcore, I will be in NYC this Saturday, so, based on your glowing review, I will make a point to go to the Empire 25 and see it in IMAX 3D!

Don't know if you saw it there or at the Chinese theater, but where do you think is the best place to sit? Far back, in the middle...? Don't think I want to be upfront.

Thank you, Lev, for your incredibly detailed review. I am THRILLED that your report on the 3D quality being extremely good gives me quivers. I am hoping the reaction of the general public will serve as a wake up call to studios that 3D -- when done well -- can truly generate strong sales.

Question: did the IMAX presentation offer shifting aspect ratios like on Transformers 4?

I look forward to seeing this new Mad Max when the 3D BD is released (as everyone who knows me is aware, I do not go to theaters). I am especially jazzed about Tom Hardy as the new Max.

Just came back from a 3d showing of Mad Max (real d 3d). That was the best 3d I've seen this year in the theater. This movie had so much action that when there was a still shot you felt exhausted and had to catch your breath...lol! I love when the 3d is up close and in your face. Example :being behind the steering wheel such as when Need for Speed had you in the cars during the high speed scenes. As said before, there is one of the best pop-out scenes I have seen in a long time. This movie had great depth throughout, mostly high medium to strong. When taking my glasses off there was great separation in most all scenes. Another highlight was seeing the new Star Wars trailer in 3D it looked to be high medium. Almost forgot to mention that Ant Man had strong 3d, not sure how I feel about the movie. All in all a great night finally seeing Mad Max 3d.
