I'm stoked to see this. Been re-watching Laika's other films in preparation for this. Only one I haven't seen is The Boxtrolls, and I hope to watch it tomorrow night.

I'm sad because like Fury Road last year, I can't find anyone interested in joining me for this. I may end up going by myself some Tues or Thurs night if not this opening night (which my theater of choice has yet to post a ticketing schedule for Thurs into the weekend this week )

Did I just witnessed one of the best animation feature films of the year!? Most definitely.

Kubo and the Two Strings is rich in characters, joyous in story and simply a feast to the eyes. Is this really stop animation? Cause I was easily fooled. The whole thing is wondrous to look at and the 3D is a top notch winner. Lots of things going on right in your face. It really wraps you right in the story with the dazzling 3D animation. The movie as a whole is always moving and the pacing is incredible. It has a deep message about the importance of your loved ones and how we come to value them. Everyone I saw it with including the kids were so captivated by the whole thing. I sure hope it does well as its perhaps Laika's best movie to date. Also, an animated film with a really beautiful and touching ending.

Going with a 4.5/5 rounding to a 5 (when poll is up).

Theater times have been posted finally. No 3D. No Ultrascreen. No Superscreen. Just the smallest room at both locations.

Looks like my theater will be featuring only one 3D showing...at 10:00 PM. And I was saving a $13 movie cash ticket for this specifically.

3D is a MUST. I'm not Focus Features trying to sell the movie. But the best way to watch it is in 3D, I think it gives it that little extra life to the experience.

I'm not one to support 3D, but I was going to for this one. Stupid theater chain...at least it'll be $5.00.

Thanks for your positive review, and if the 3D is that great, I have to check if it's playing in XD 3D at Cinemark. I know I saw ads for XD screenings, but I'm unsure if they meant standard.

What the hell...even the AMC in Boston has only one late-night showing of Kubo in 3D. And it's not like anything else is showing in 3D except for Suicide Squad and a lone late-night showing of Ben-Hur. Looks like Kubo is going to be the first Laika movie I don't get to see in 3D.

Chris gave it an A, stating that it's Laika's best and it is better than Coraline.

Hopefully they open more times for Saturday and Friday.

That's hopeful. Thanks.
The 3D in the trailer looks mild to medium for the 3D layers, but hopefully they've amped it up since the mostly mild 3D of ParaNorman and Boxtrolls 3D.

The stop motion animation of these films, amazing. It looks like CGI characters but it's not (for the most part).

Sadly, it looks like the theaters don't have much faith in Kubo

During the weekend, starting Friday, it only has four showtimes total (2 2D, 2 3D)

Laika's movies don't set the box office on fire. All of them opened lower than $20M.

Which is really unfortunate cause I think this is their best one. It really clicked with all the audience members I saw it with last night.

Coraline and Paranorman are 2 of my favorite animated movies so I am anxiously awaiting this.

You will love it. It's better than Coraline, I thought.

Going by myself right after work at 6pm to see this. No one would go with me. I've seen all of Laika's films on blu-ray by myself, so why not continue the trend?
