I usually do not let price points dictate my purchases. If I want a Blu-ray enough, then I will buy that Blu-ray if the purchase is within reason.
I do compare prices, but I also compare convenience and practicality. For example, I will not drive 30 minutes out of my way to buy a Blu-ray for $15 when I can buy it across the street for $20. The observations in the book, Predictably Irrational, can often guide decisions here, sometimes including my own. It's like the story of the New York City pizza parlor that sold its $15 large pizzas for $1 one day, and ended up having lines so long that some customers waited over four hours to take advantage of the deal. |

In Australia, the average price of an non new release film is $20+ I don't see why you people wouldn't pay that much.

I make it a point to almost never pay more than $10 for Blus, with the sole exceptions being Twilight Time/Scream Factory/steelbooks, and even then, I try to find bargains wherever I can. Even with the ones over $10, I'm usually getting the majority of my Blus for well under $10 (factoring in coupons and selling the UV codes, I got Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and X-Men: Days Of Future Past for under $2.00 apiece

I rarely buy and pay full price for movies on Blu-Ray the day they come out. The only time I will is if it is something major that I have been been waiting patiently for. When I buy a Disney or Pixar Blu-Ray it is usually the day it gets released because they almost never go on sale after that.
But for most other releases I want, I choose to wait for big sales because I can end up getting a few titles I want for more than half of the price that they usually retail for. Last Friday (Boxing Day) I bought Star Trek: The Compendium and X-Men: Days Of Future Past for $9.99 each from Best Buy. |

Only new releases of movies I really like. They tend to average about 8-10 per year. Right now, everything Marvel is a day one purchase (usually steelbook pre-orders). The Hobbit: BOFA will be my next one.
Everything else is used in like new condition. |

I almost always seem to get slips with my bargains. It's ironic because I don't even like the slipcovers. I must have around 100 (maybe more) pristine slips stored in a bag in my closet.

The only BRs I get new on release are Marvel or DC comics related. Or if a store has an exclusive slip I like (Target-TMNT, Wal-Mart- Guardians of the Galaxy). Other then those it's really rare for me to pay $20-$25 for movies I know will drop in price fast. I usually pay $5-$12 used from eBay 90% of the time.
