No doubt 4k is better, but I won't be upgrading. I'm perfectly fine with blu ray.

If you don't want to upgrade right away: fine. If you don't want to upgrade every title: equally fine. Most titles won't probably be re-released anyway. It will mainly be big titles finished at 4K over the past several years, future films made in 4K or higher resolution, and a sampling of popular favorites getting 4K treatment/upgrades. Yes, you might end up wanting to re-buy some titles, and if you don't want to do that for all of them... fine. But this is just a way to make film presentations on home media even better. I don't see how this really has a downside besides the fact you'll probably end up re-buying some films again.

I bet several of you saying you won't upgrade are probably going to end up down the road anyway. This happened with DVD as well, where a lot of people thought the idea behind Blu-ray was a waste. I expect UHD Blu-ray to be less successful than Blu-ray is, namely because it will primarily appeal to the biggest enthusiasts of Blu-ray, but I also expect that many Blu-ray fans currently writing off the format will probably change their minds as soon as they feel a need for a new HDTV. Eventually, the majority of TV's will be 4K.
Pretty much this.

Blu-ray is fine with me and I am not slowing down. I might buy new releases on 4K if and when I get the right equipment but that will be all. Also I doubt that many of the catalogue titles available on blu-ray especially the niche ones will be put out on 4K blu-ray. Blu-ray will be the last physical format for many of these films and thats fine with me.

Hell No! If anything i want to purchase more. Anyone that thinks 4k media is going to have anywhere near the selection of current Blu Ray's are fooling themselves. On top of that, I'd wager that very few catalog films will have the budgets or resources to really take advantage of the 4k format. I'll inevitably pick up a 4K tv/player and some new films as they roll out, but since current horror releases can barely utilize Blu Ray effectively and are often relegated to 2 films per disk, theirs no rush for me to upgrade to a format that won't likely carry much, if any, classic films from my favorite genre.

The only problem I have with blurays are some out of date transfers. I can't see studios shelling out for new masters, so I'm stopping at blu's.

Over the past two years I built up a hefty library of HDX files on Vudu as my BD purchases slowed to a bare minimum (except for 3D BDs, which I always buy).

But I noticed when I got a projector recently that blu-rays look significantly better on the projector than 1080p HDX files on Vudu.

So I am back to purchasing BDs of absolutely must-have movies.

As for 4K, I will cross that road when I get there.

1 - I think part of the reason many of us aren't interested is because you would have to buy new players and new TVs for a new format. Many people have spent lots of their hard-earned dollars on their home theater setups, so the idea of starting all over again isn't worth it.

2 - Obviously the quality will be better, but with each new format the difference in quality gets smaller, so for many people, the difference between Blu-Ray & UHD probably won't be big enough to care.

I've said this in a few other places.

I don't see the point in moving to 4K displays and media content until (direct view) display technology has fixed existing problems, e.g. black levels/contrast ratio, back lighting, power consumption, etc. Also get rid of region coding, too.

Until then, I am sticking to my 55-inch Panny plasma and Blu-ray...purchased as cheaply as possible via discounts and what-not, or renting them. I currently hire five Blu-rays a week for $10.

4K and I will eventually become friends, but an early adopter this time around, I won't be. A well transfered blu already looks as good, if not better than going to the theater. I'll wait for reviews on the new format, plus see some demos like everyone was doing when HD-DVD and Blu-ray first came out.

Default How about Streaming?

I have almost completely stopped buying Blurays (maybe 2 a month now) and started putting my money into UV (vudu/flixster/cinemanow/target ticket/etc) now. The only movies i buy are ones that are a really good deal or is not currently UV supported (there are still tons that are not yet).

I am still a sucker for collectors editions like Watchmen, Dark Knight, & digibooks though.

If they add HDR, 10 bit color, etc. then I'll get excited. The resolution jump itself isn't near as important. I'm, as always, excited to see what the future holds.

Well I'm gonna have to wait several years till my 3 yr old TV breaks down. I mostly buy niche cult titles that are unlikely to get 4K releases, but there are a few high profile titles that I don't have a burning desire to re-watch right away that I'm holding off on till 4K. Famous classics like Citizen Kane and Raging Bull, or stuff like the Sam Raimi Spidermans are pretty safe bets for 4K. Also I can rent English friendly Miazaki BDs here, so I might hold off on completing my collection of those till 4K, as I already saw those demoed on 4K sets here.. I regret buying Lawrence of Arabia a while back, as I already saw it in a theatre and don't have a burning desire to re-watch it on a 42" 1080p if I can see it in better PQ a few years from now. Hope I can afford a bigger set when the time comes, a projector seems like a dream.

I really don't have a problem spending money. I'm an idiot .

I've blown money on worse things than 4K.

Here's my problem. These are the movies I have on pre-order:

Beach Blanket Bingo
Muscle Beach Party
Tales of Terror
The Beat Generation
At War With the Army
Firepower
Love at First Bite/Once Bitten
Vampire's Kiss/High Spirits
Blacula/Scream Blacula Scream
From Whisper to a Scream

If I was a sucker for the latest Hollywood blockbuster, 4k would hold more interest.

I've had cancer surgery twice. By the time Muscle Beach Party comes out in 4k, I probably won't be around to see it. If I was buying things like INTERSTELLAR or JUPITER ASCENDING, I'd be all over 4k. If I'm wrong...and Blacula gets announced for 4k, then I'll be the first in line.

Not holding my breath .

I don't have a set over 70 inches, and by all accounts, that's where you will see the benefit of 4K.

Therefore, I can't see myself going down that road. It's going to be a very niche-specific format that will almost certainly be more expensive and cater to a smaller crowd.

4K is gonna be DOA. Most people are fine with DVD which is still hands-down the preferred format for many. I'm fine with Blu-ray and won't upgrade again. I did VHS, laserdisc, DVD, HD DVD and then Blu-ray.... I'm set.

No I'm fine with regular Blu-ray and my Pioneer and Panny plasmas.

Just got back from a big box store a few hours ago. Spent several minutes staring at all the 4k TV's. Thought they all looked like over digitized garbage.

Thanks, but no thanks.

No way, unless I get an 8 foot high screen and a living room the size of a concert hall it's blu ray here to stay.
