He said NFS which I took as Nintendo Famicom System, which didn't have that problem. Only the NES did. Although he's in America so who knows.

Though given their track record I honestly do not think it would have been an issue if they had used a CD-Rom drive. Plus none of their other disk-based Nintendo consoles since the N64 have had major issues. I just think for all the flak that gamers give Nintendo, they forget to stop and think about all the things Nintendo does right and that are actually good for the industry. When it comes to quality control, in both their hardware and software, they simply have no equal. |

It's not even confirmed to be a "home console" yet, just that it's a new platform based on a new concept. Iwata skirted the question when asked if it was hardware, and if it was the successor to the Wii U or 3DS.
http://www.thetanooki.com/2015/03/19...e-nx-so-early/ Based on that context, all we know is that it's a dedicated gaming platform. ...but so is Steam, is it not? The NX platform is being designed with connectivity in mind that the Wii U and 3DS just aren't capable of. It's designed to employ a unified service that will not only be retrofitted to the Wii U and 3DS, but will be built-in to their smart device platform and future hardware. Everything else is speculation at this point. |

Using cheaper components is important to keep price down when using more powerful hardware. The Wii U is using very basic and cheap technology, yet it launched for $300. They can easily afford to spend more on reliable parts when the system is released at such a huge mark-up. Playstation 4 launched at $400 and cost even more than that to make. If the system used more reliable hardware it would likely cost way more and that is bad for both Sony and consumers. If you are fine with using an underpowered but reliable system then just stick with Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. You can upgrade to Playstation 4 in a few years when the slim is released. I agree, if there was no Wii U game pad and instead it was just a Wii U classic controller wit the machine that console would probably be $100 cheaper.

The gamepad being expensive is absurd with how terrible the screen quality is (and I'm not just talking about the resolution). If Nintendo is actually spending $100 or more to make each gamepad then that just tells me they are incompetent.

CNN Money got UMB TechInsights to tear down the Basic Wii U in 2013 and they estimated the Gamepad cost $79.25 in raw parts and $148.25 in raw parts for the console itself.
$228 in total with an MSRP of $300. "That $228 total doesn't factor in the actual manufacturing process, pre-loading the OS, packaging, additional pack-in materials, shipping, and so on. Then you must consider that retailers make a profit off of markup, meaning the units are sold to them for less than MSRP. CNN even acknowledges that its estimate doesn't consider the up-front costs of R&D." So there isn't really a huge mark up at all and Wii U is in fact the first Nintendo console to be sold at a loss at launch. http://money.cnn.com/video/technolog...down.cnnmoney/ |

I'm sure it had a lot to do with it but I certainly wouldn't say that it was THE reason why Wii U had that type of controller. Either way I pretty much only want to game with a standard game controller. Almost certainly any console in the future that comes standard with a gimmicky controller or whatever won't be getting my money.

I'm sure hoping so. If they want to have something optional that you buy afterwards like Move or Kinect that's fine, but to have a forced way of playing a game is not what I want. Give me a default standard controller everyday of the week.
