I would suggest purchasing the iTunes version. Good way to support the movie while also getting the best quality version too.

EDIT: I just thought I'd state that I can't 100% remember if the iTunes version is the best quality version.

So don't purchase it based purely on my original statement.

Watched this a few years ago and just looking for it on physical media. Can't believe this movie never made it to regular Blu-ray.

I first saw this when I was staying in hospital in 2008. Stumbled across it on the weird pay-per-view monitors that they had over beds in Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, and I absolutely fell in love with it (the movie, not Wexham, lol).

Bought it on DVD today from Amazon, watched it, and loved it all over again.

There absolutely should've been a Blu-ray release of it by now though!

Do hospitals still have those monitors by the way? Haven't needed to be in one for a few years now. Just generally curious.

It's a sweet little movie. Just like Williams What Dreams May Come this is dismissed a lot by the cynical and grumpy but its harmless and the ending always makes me tear up.

Default Blame Disney!

Blame Disney!
They put Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures in disfunct. I would love to see this movie be released on bluray with Down And Out In Beverly Hills, An American Werewolf In London to name a couple of these movies. Who knows when they would get off of their asses and release movies like these on bluray. I have a nasty taste in my mouth after they disrespected 20th Century Fox's legacy by changing the later name to Studios! *******s! SMDH!

Microsoft Store: 7.77 GB (1080p HD)
iTunes: 6.12 GB (1080p HD)

Seems that Microsoft is the way to go with this one

Speaking of similar themes, in the newer series The Outer Limits, the father has a robot android as a butler, and it eventually takes over his role as father, becoming a kind tyrant of the house to keep everyone in line. It also references the cameras in the robots and how the creators are watching the family if I remember right.

Quote:
The Outer Limits: Episode 131 1 "Family Values" Mike Rohl James Crocker March 16, 2001
Jerry Miller (Tom Arnold) spends more time at work than at home and buys a robot to help around the home. While his family resists at first, they slowly accept the artificial life form, which is named Gideon. The robot performs better than Jerry could ever hope for, so well that Jerry's role as head of the household is removed in favor of the new, artificial replacement. Jerry grows increasingly hostile towards Gideon, but, despite his change of heart, Gideon's hold on the family has become too strong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...Season_1_(1995)

With Sony now taking over for Disney as they don't want to support physical media anymore, there is a chance of Bicentennial Man being a upcoming 4K Release as it is both a Touchstone (Disney) and Columbia Pictures (Sony) Production

If Disney doen’t want to support physical media they would’ve just scrapped the whole thing. But they’re letting Sony handle it Disney titles will still be on physical media, it’s just an operation strategy.

On streaming platforms this has been available in 1080p for many years

Imagine in the future when Androids look, sound and act identical to living humans. What will the laws be for humans and Androids?

A.I. addressed that, along with I Robot. Terminator series too. An interesting topic. Star Wars has mostly robotic looking Droids, but does have some Androids like Lobot on Cloud City under Lando's command.

One of few films I've ever seen that I felt could've benefitted from being 3+ hours long. Too much time is spent on establishing a family-comedy tone in the first act, and the film jumps across decades too frequently in the third, so the ending doesn't pay off.

Nonetheless, it is a good film that I'd buy on 4K if it ever releases. The 1080p transfer I saw on Netflix a couple years ago looked very old.

Remember there were scenes in the trailer that never made it into the final film, can only imagine cuts were made to shorten the runtime, and would love to see a director's cut of this film.

Still have my original DVD from the early 2000's, and honestly not even sure if it will play any longer, been almost a decade since I last played the disc.

Pretty crazy this never got a Blu-ray release or licensed out. Another good film not released on Blu-ray because of Disney. It seems the list never ends.

Only Disney can sit on titles like this and plenty of other good films that should have had a BD.

Like seriously who sits on Encino Man, yes. Disney.
