Hey, I just tried...my HP BD-ROM is about five years old. For the first time ever using it (which is about 3-4 times a year), I got an error message saying the disc was created in a way that was unplayable. It works in my Sony BR player...I wonder if the software thinks it's a bootleg from something in the authoring?

Anyway...really strange how no professional sites review the Disney Movie Club Exclusives. Disney clearly isn't sending out free screeners, I guess, and the critics don't want to spend their own money.

When will Disney release "Westward Ho The Wagons" and "Born to Sing"?

Ah jeez. People more concerned with the packaging than getting the film itself in HD on physical media.

I swear it's like being disappointed Salma Hayek isn't wearing a winter coat in a lingerie pictorial.

They don't help a BD look or sound better. Nor do they protect as well as the plastic case.

Are you kidding? They're a godsend, especially when dealing with eco-cases, (which luckily, Disney does not use). Slipcovers are good for one thing, and one thing only, and that's acting as a shield to protect the cover art from being utterly destroyed by eco-cases.

I've replaced every eco case with a non-eco Elite.

Slips do nothing but get scuffed and frayed. Oh, and make it harder to get a disc out, frequently damaging the case's plastic shield sliding on & off because they're too tight, and damaging the actual cover art paper in the process.

And how did that nice dented cover art look when you swapped it into the pristine Viva Elite? Pretty good right?

They can get scuffed and frayed all they like, that's there job, to protect the cover art on the inside!

Nonsense! I've never seen that happen, and it shouldn't. You're obviously doing it wrong. Slipcovers are your friend, the only purpose they serve is to protect the art work, be it in transit via bubblemailer garbage or getting smacked around on the store shelf, they do their job! Once I own the damn thing, I always toss the slipcover. No "sliding on & off" shenanigans here.

Some I have to keep, like The Simpsons Blu-rays (R.I.P.) because there is no descriptors and just artwork on the inside. And often times they are too tight. Or the plastic catches on the cutout for the UPC.

I went on another search for screen comparisons and a guy over at hometheaterforum.com posted a video comparison without the DVD. At least it gives you an idea of what to expect. Looks great to me.

Most DD 2.0 tracks on DVD are 192kbps.

This apparently is 320kbps. Considering the age and limitations of the masters you aren't going to get much better quality, even when lossless. Is lossless better? Yes. Is it going to make a difference for this film's soundtrack? More than likely not.

Default Some screenshots, I hope - or not

Broke down and purchased it "new sealed" on eBay; disc appears to be genuine as best I can tell. Scan appears to be sourced from "best available print" and is definitely in the "best its ever going to look at this point" / "lucky to have it at all" camp.

I made a bunch of full-rez screenshots intending to upload them; however I just reviewed the Attachment "rules" and its a miniscule 20 KB 620x280 max, so there is absolutely no point. I don't have an alternate place to upload them and post a link.

My personal Disney live-action feature wish-list:

Song of the South (1946) Technicolor
Treasure Island (1950 UK) Technicolor
the Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952 UK) Technicolor
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) CinemaScope
Tonka (1958)
Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959)
the Parent Trap (1960)
Toby Tyler (1960)
the Moon-Spinners (1964)

I wish they would release Return to Snowy River.

Glad Swiss finally got a release.

A Disney Movie Club member was nice enough to order Swiss Family Robinson for me. I watched the film last week and I'm very pleased with the transfer. I hadn't seen the film in more than 30 years. It's a gem of my collection now!
