It is alot of fun playing with other people, I had about 5 people playing when I downloaded it and we played for over an hour. But by myself I only played it for about 10 min.

Default PS3 vs Wii: High Velocity Bowling

I've played the Wii and this new downloadable PS3 game is pretty darn motion sensitive and gives the Wii a run for its money in this user's opinion. You hold the controller a certain way, swing your arm back, toss it forward again with some speed, and voila, you've just thrown a strike (or maybe a gutter ball). But in any case, it's got some fine Sixaxis motion sensitive controls that certainly give the Wii a run for its money.

My arm is still sore from playing 2 nights ago. I did play for about 2 hours though. It's pretty damn fun!

I downloaded the PS3 bowling game the day it came out and my family had fun with it (although, the character dialouge can get a bit old).

Just went to a friends house for Christmas and they have a Wii and said we had to play bowling. The whole time I was playing it, I kept thinking of how much the PS3 game looked much, much better. The floors, the pins, the ball, the characters, the physics, sooooooo much better on PS3. I was also missing that "in game" music. (Our family finds 80's music a perfect fit for bowling. )

The PS3 version wins easily when comparing both of these simple games. Of course, it probably didn't hurt that I play the PS3 game in hi-def on my 65" (maybe their SD 35" just didn't do the game justice . . . . but I don't think that had much to do with it.)

I have to agree with this I also have both a Wii and a PS3. I downloaded the game I also think its miles ahead of Wii bowling. Its a deeper game overall allowing me to add spin to the ball even adjusting velocity. and it runs in 1080P unlike the wii that only runs progressive scan. Its to bad Sony doesnt pack this game in with the PS3 and make more motion sensative games. Nintendo cant sue them because the siaxxis controller has a sony patent. If Sony did pack this in witha few more motion sensative games this thing would start selling like the Wii.

Wii Sports, if that is the bowling game you played, does not really get better with the jump from 480i to 480p. I play my Wii on the same HDTV my PS3 is hooked up to, while it is not a 65" it is alright for me. I had a launch Wii and had to wait on component cables from Nintendo and there was not much of a differance from SD to HD.

I have not tried the PS3 bowling because Wii Sports can take care of my video bowling needs. I would just need to dust off my copy.

You can also add spin and adjust velocity with the Wii bowling, just twist the remote as you release B. Velocity can be controlled by how fast you swing

While the PS3 bowling is better (IMO), I certainly don't think you would need to "upgrade". It's just bowling. If you have the Wii version, you're fine - if you have both systems and are thinking of owning a bowling game - I say, go with the PS3 version.

480 is "ok". I have an old X-Box and my PS2 games, but when I put them in, the difference is immediate.

Like I said before, the real icing on the cake for me is the "in game" personlized music. I really wish more games had this. I would LOVE if Burnout comes with this.

i own both games the wii sports and the hvb for the ps3, and hands down the one for the wii is much better. i am an avid bowler and the motion for the wii are much more realistic, i thought hvb sucked, but then again that is all just my opinion.

if you think that the ps3 blows away the wii in terms of graphix on the bowling game...you should see call of duty 3 comparison

If you have both systems, you almost certainly have Wii bowling. Wii Sports comes bundled with the Wii still unless I missed something.

I agree, so far HVB is taking the most advantage of PS3's motion sensitivity. The game is great although like someone above mentioned I would like to see more diverse dialog. The same phrases repeated multiple times within one game get old pretty fast. The major downside of the PS3 controller that I realized once my kids started playing HVB is that there is no strap and I am seriously scared that one day one of the SixAxis controllers will crash into my display.

I see. I do not have a Wii - but played it for the first time at a friend's house. We played bowling first, then we played 4 person Mario Soccer (Not sure what the official name is).

I will say however, neither Wii bowling nor Mario Soccer did anything that the PS3 couldn't do. Just less buttons to choose from.

Default spin

Spin should be controlled through tilting the sixaxis. Using r2, and l2 is annoying.

I do a lot of real bowling myself and was looking at getting this game. Will the ball spin, if youe tilt the controller? Also, do you have to use the controller with motion?

I bowl straight line in real life and do the same with the game.

I bowl maybe 2x every 3 years and my average is around 185 (no lie). Two weeks ago I won our company holiday party high game and average score rewards after not playing for over a year.

Point? You don't need no stinking spin. Just chuck the mo fo and drink lots o beer. Its friggen bowling not rocket science.
