THUNDERBOLT has one good scene: the pachinko parlor. And even that scene switches to annoying strobe-motion halfway through. Huge comedown from POLICE STORY III: SUPERCOP and DRUNKEN MASTER II. It's not even nearly as good as CITY HUNTER or RUMBLE IN THE BRONX. It is better than MR. NICE GUY, though. Yikes.

Jackie's broken ankle from RUMBLE meant that he was doubled extensively by Chin Ka-Lok for that scene (and probably a few others). The overall film is a bit of a mess. The same can be said for all of Jackie's films made between 1995 and 1998, though I like some of them more. That said, if a great BD of Thunderbolt did come out, I'd be mightily tempted.

Just saw this was getting a release! Rumble in the Bronx was my first exposure to Jackie Chan... loved every minute of it. Remember watching it with my dad... and I still go to the movies with my dad almost 20 years later, we watched Jurassic World today! Happy Fathers Day to all the dad's out there!

As for DM2, it's not my fave Jackie film, but it is up there, and is the last great old-school-ish kung-fu film to come out of Hong Kong. If there's been a better one since, I haven't heard of it. |

City Hunter is far from one of Jackie's worst movies, but it's one of my least favourite movies of his from my favourite Jackie period. (Ca. mid 80s to mid 90s) I like it better now than I did back when it was new, but still no big fan.
Joey Wong is super cute though. ![]() |

DM2 is a great film. And no, there hasn't been a better old-school-ish kung fu film since. The thing is, nearly most of what he made since Project A has been better IMO |

Yeah, it's refreshing to see Jackie play against type. City Hunter is probably top 3 Jackie for me. Wong Jing's sensibilities play better here than they do in the CAT III stuff I've seen of his. |

Jackie Chan as star no doubt forced Wong Jing to tone down his predilection for sleaze and rape.
