Semi fixed subs on some sets and no annoying disney commercials when you put the BD in. No idea if anything else.

Some guy in the deals thread for this set quotes someone saying that the discs here have ZERO special features. If so, that ****ing BLOWWWS. I'd rather have subs that are just alright over no special features.

The dubtitle issue on many titles is fixed, though Kiki is reportedly still screwed.

Better subtitles. Also I have heard better bitrates.

I'd rather had actual subtitles over special features, which weren't even that good to begin with. Plus, it comes with that bonus disc and the booklet, which are far better.

The US Miayazaki box is based off of its Japanese counterpart, which also had no bonus features except for those on the separate bonus disc. That said, the only bonus features on the standalone US discs that really mattered were the full-length storyboards, theatrical trailers and TV spots, the NTV special for Spirited Away, and the "Completion Announcement" press conference for The Wind Rises.

It's not screwed inasmuch as it's using a tweaked version of the old Streamline-derived dub script that was used for all Japanese home video releases and the 2003 US DVD. While it's not a "true" literal subtitle track, it's still far more accurate than the US BD's dubtitle based off of Disney's current dub.

I hope this means it has the same improved encodes and new transfer for Nausicaa, seriously I had no plans on getting this but if that ever gets 100% confirmed by someone on here I'm all up in that in a matter of seconds.

It looks like we got the old transfer for Nausicaa just like the UK set did.

I just ordered the set; if it's still unclear by the time I get it I'll try to post some bitrate numbers and figure out exactly what encodes are on these discs.

I doubt it'll arrive before Christmas though, which means I won't get to it until the new year.

99% sure that one’s a bootleg. Tellingly, if you look at the other items this seller is offering there are a couple other items that are known to be heavily bootlegged(FMAB, DBZ Complete Series, Rurouni Kenshin Complete Series) at suspiciously low prices.

Also, if you look at his reviews there are a lot of complaints of him selling bootlegs.

Always check feedback. Usually gives it away.

Considering it sold for a MSRP of $250 USD, it is very unlikely that anyone selling it would be unaware of its limited collector status and sell it for pittance.

Is there still a lot of demand for this set? Weren’t they all re-released by Shout?

Individually, never in a box set. People like their box sets. Note how popular Studio Ghibli BD/DVD bootlegs are because the popular ones bundle a bunch of movies together when officially they're available only individually at higher-prices than the bootlegs.

Though part of it people don't know any better and just assume. I had a co-worker who had a friend get them a bootleg box set as a gift. I never had the heart to tell them they received a bootleg as there's only been one official box set here.

One of the easiest ways to tell a legit copy versus a bootleg is the film cell of Castle Of Cagliostro. The legit one you can see the feet of the princess. In the bootlegs her feet are cut off. The background is different too. Not sure how the bootleggers messed that up.

I know this is probably a long shot but it seems there is a new copy of this collection shipped and sold by Amazon. Is it worth entertaining a purchase or is it more likely that there are so many bootlegs on the market that Amazon probably stores them together in warehouse and can't tell the difference? I guess I can always return it to Amazon if it's a bootleg.

Recently watched the only two films from this set I had yet to see, Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises, and also re-watched Princess Mononoke which I hadn’t seen since the 90s. I enjoyed the latter much more this time around and was amazed at how little of it actually reflected my memories of it. After watching all three I really had an urge to purchase the soundtracks by Joe Hisaishi. Does anyone know what the definitive releases are for them? I saw a box set that looks complete but I didn’t know if there are better individual releases. It doesn’t help that I can’t read Japanese and most of the Discogs listings, and there are a LOT for these films, are not translated. Is there a good website that covers all the different editions and which are best?
