Yup, from what Kevin told us this is the case. I expect it to be sold out within a few months.

It's 60% sold out directly from Eureka. That doesn't account for stock at retailers. By fast sellout I was thinking within the first 2 months or so, so yeah I'd agree that it could sell out completely in about 4 or 5 months.

You've got an 8/10 chance of the Criterion being encoded like crap and the picture quality being significantly inferior to MoC's.

Why are the extras on a DVD?

It's possible that they're only available in SD, and since the content on there are the main things being dropped from standard edition, it makes financial sense to not have to author two different BD's. Ir would be a little unfortunate if the only reason it's in SD is for the latter reason though.

I wouldn't be surprised that the documentary was only available in SD and that upgrading the whole thing to HD would have blown up the production costs, and thus the price tag (and seeing how it has already been debated at length, imagine what would this topic become if it was even worse !).

I'll admit I expected it to be on a BD but not a problem if it's just a DVD instead - after all, it's the main feature that you really want to see in HD. As you said it was likely the documentary is SD quality, otherwise they would have opted for a BD 25 (as I'd imagine the Cairns video essay was produced in HD).

Not a problem for me. For those still on the fence, look at it this way - would you have paid £5 for the DVD as a standalone release? I know I would.

Well I pre-ordered, but not for the reason you stated. I generally never have an issue with their encodes, but I'm sure a lot of people do.

It's been stuck at £20.23 forever at Amazon UK. I'm like 'really, you little barstool, you're just not gonna budge!?!' I think a couple of quid less and I'd cave...

Base.com were doing a 10% discount code today, would have brought it down to £17.99. I locked it in this afternoon, and canceled the amazon order. Can't seem to find the code now, was going to share - it was something like Jan10 or similar but seems they've stopped it.

The Base code is HOTJAN.
First 3,250 orders only and valid until the 18th.

I think the lowest it will drop to on Amazon is £19.99, in line with HMV. I've noticed they do this as late as the week of release now. Anyway, that would only 24p off the current price...so nothing particularly amazing.

I'm tempted to switch to Base/Rakuten for my order, as I just tried the HOTJAN code and it still works and I have some reward points to use up, but I reckon Amazon's packaging might be slightly better (Base would just used a Jiffy bag) and I also have free Expedited shipping (plus it's easier to return if it does arrive damaged). I might still use that code on something else though, but trying to find something reasonably priced on Rakuten is like doing tax returns.

I tried Base.com but that voucher code comes up as invalid and they don't accept PayPal anyways which is my preferred payment method.

That's what I thought too, that it'd be a BD-25 with the docu and video essay in HD. Hoping it's Gary who's wrong here.

Edit: Whups, the description on this site now says 1BD+2DVD

That sucks. But I'm guessing that the pressing price of another BD would be too much and eat into the profit?
