Haven't begun to go through WB dvds from era but have started to check dates when shopping. I passed on one earlier because the release date was within that faulty year timeline. I'm really hoping my Tales from the Crypt sets play fine. Same with the Brisco County Jr set; found it used recently and am hoping someone didn't trade it in from having playback issues. I guess I'll have to go through some of these and see how they play. It'd be nice if WB could offer at least a digital replacement for anything problematic if there's a way to do so. These are older catalog titles now and so who knows.

So if it's only double-layered discs that suffer from this problem, does this mean that the second Popeye the Sailor volume should not suffer from rot (as it's entirely single-layer)? I've been wanting to pick up those three sets (and the 1940s Blu-rays) but I'm worried I'll end up spending $20 on a set that's got two or three coasters and one or two actually playable discs, or eat crow and buy the reissues that are DVD-Rs.
In a perfect world we would have already had those cartoons on Blu-ray, but with the various licensing hurdles this series has faced I don't see that happening. This set of questions applies to the Tex Avery Droopy set since I don't think we will ever get to see those CinemaScope cartoons or the likes of Droopy's Good Deed or Caballero Droopy on Blu either. I read that some of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection sets have rotted, which is really disappointing
![]() ![]() Are all the discs affected? |

Hey,
I looked on Amazon US and they're selling "Repackaged" versions of the Golden Collection sets (perhaps just a different case) from 2020, would it be safe to buy these if the older releases have rotted? For example: https://www.amazon.com/Looney-Tunes-...82PRJ8XJ&psc=1 |

Warner will replace rotten DVDs. OOP titles can be exchanged for a different title.

I need to finishing checking my discs, but it looks like I only have a few titles that fall in that category. I have the individual seasons of Tales from the Crypt, Brisco County Jr, and the Adventures of Superman, but they were all purchased after 2010 so I'm hoping they're later pressings. The discs in the first two seasons of TFTC looked fine.
Wish they would just remaster and release them to Blu-ray so it wouldn't be a problem. |

This also applies to discs that are not shows or movies, but sports titles as well-- a time back, I had the NBA L.A. Lakers 1985 Return to Glory set, and for some unforeseen reason, the fourth disc (Game 4) stopped working (perhaps because I had seen it so much, it [IMO] being the best game of the series, as well as [also IMO] CBS' best broadcast of that series). I thought, well, I'll just get a fresh copy, and maybe that'll remedy it so I can enjoy it again.
Unfortunately, not to be, as the Game 4 disc in that one just flat out refused to play, even with no use. Also, I had recently purchased the 1988-89 Detroit Pistons NBA Motor City Madness DVD w/their Eastern Conference Finals and NBA Finals wins (the Finals being a sweep), and two or three of those discs just flat out refused to load; I had to ultimately end up sending it back. Fortunately, not all of these discs are affected; my copy of that Chicago Bears 1985 12-game release from them and NFL Films still plays fine, even with the box wear (the box wear is my only trouble with that one). Has anyone got a hold of someone at Warner Bros to get their replacement disc? I have tried twice to get hold of them at "whv@wbd.com", that they said to contact them through and they never responded to me. It's been over 2 weeks are they going to replace them or not?

I wish they provided replacement discs for international customers, too.
Provided you can even get in touch with them. |

I contacted them about replacements around the time I noticed this and started the thread. They never replied.
I think they only reply to "influencers" and YouTubers who discuss the issue on a public platform. That way it can look like they're doing something about it without actually doing something about it. |

Hey,
I've been checking out some of my Looney Tunes DVDs - so far I looked at: Golden Collection 4 (Disc 1) Golden Collection 3 (Disc 2) Golden Collection 2 (Disc 3) I haven't checked every cartoon but they all loaded and played fine. So this either means - 1. My copies of these have not rotted (yet?) 2. Maybe I have a new pressing of the discs. Is there a way to tell when they were manufactured? They aren't the newer repackaged releases from a few years ago unfortunately. |
