Absolutely the way to go. The effects in particular are less convincing in 2D.

Well, okay, but it's going to be a few years.

I don't actually have a 4K set up yet. I've been buying the 4K packs since they include the regular Blu-Ray anyway, and I'll be set for when I eventually do have a proper set up.

I can tell you what I think of the regular Blu-Ray much sooner, if that interests you at all!

4k or 3d may depend on your setup. Some tvs are poor at hdr, but will give a good 3D experience. Everyone has the option to purchase both though. You can sell the one you don't want.

Surprisingly, Walmart has the best price on the 4K....$25.94. I PM'd them at Best Buy.

Best Buy was the only main retailer to get 3D. Best Buy AND Walmart had 4K too. I grabbed both.

On new releases, I still can't decide on 3D v 4K. I like 3D better, but something about passing on 4K doesn't 'feel' right.

These movies are dumb, but gosh are they fun!!

You can't really go wrong with either one (3D or 4K), but I agree. It's so difficult to decide. With TMNT 2, I'm hearing that the 3D is the definitive presentation, and watching it in 2D feels wrong, as if something's missing. Apparently, it's obviously meant to be seen in 3D, the way the shots are arranged and such. As fun as these movies are, they're even more fun in 3D.

I really wish all studios were doing 3D/4K combo packs. I've gone back and forth about Star Trek Beyond, ultimately opting for the expensive Amazon-exclusive with all formats included. Whenever that option is presented, I have to go with it, even though $50 is a lot to ask for one movie.

I watched this last night, the only point where it seemed odd was during the fight on the spaceship.

And you watched in?

Does the 3d version has Atmos?

Pricing on Star Trek Beyond 3D/4K combo is asinine. Ghostbusters 3D/4K is $27 (which is exceptionally great pricing...movie aside).

The way I buy movies, it's cheaper to buy 3D & 4K separately on Beyond, which is what I've done.

Default 4K Blu-ray Vs. Blu-ray

I just watched the 4k Blu-ray last night. I thought for a Mastered in 2K DI, this looked amazing. Today, I compared scenes from the 4K Blu-ray and the Blu-ray. The 4K Blu-ray has additional detail especially in the shadows. The colors on the 4K blu-ray look more lifelike.

One huge difference is on Chapter 12. At the beginning of the chapter, it shows a forest. The amount of detail and color is quite the difference between the two.

Another difference with the HDR. Go to Chapter 14, at the beginning it's showing Leonardo reading. You can see how on the Blu-ray its much brighter and washes out the color. On the 4k Blu-ray, all the detail is retained.

IMO, I'm seeing quite an upgrade. I think this is a worthy 4K purchase.

Note: I'm viewing this on an OLED556CP.

Just finished watching this in 4K. I think it looked amazing. Ive watched a couple of other 4k discs and so far have been unimpressed. This movie definitely stood out to me.

So the consensus is don't listen to the review, this is one of the best 4k disks yet.

This is one of the best looking 4K disks for it not being mastered in 4K DI. Lucy looks better IMO. I don't think the review on this site does it justice. I think the whysoblu review is a more accurate depiction.

What is the setup Martin watches his 4K movies on? Did I miss that on the TMNT2 4K page?

Just watched, it looked OUTSTANDING on my setup (CGI is crazy good) and the audio was great too. Fun flick.

Really impressed how detailed the stuff looked.

The gift package does come with a collectible packaging scenario. which is the justification of the price.

Picked up and enjoyed the 3d version a lot but all the positive talk regarding the 4K version has me thinking of getting that as well. Wish 3d+4k combo packs were more commonplace.

Am seeing a good bundle deal on offer for that tv and am very tempted to get one right now for both the 4k and passive 3d capabilities. Have read that passive 3d on a 4k tv looks great, have you tried it out yet?

The 3D on the OLEDs is outstanding and easy on the eyes (1080p passive).
