The pure black bars are also less distracting when watching movies in wide screen

LG embedded DIRECTV's FHD and UHD 4K decoders in many 2015 and 2016 4K TVs. The schedule I posted above lists the firmware upgrade activation dates for each 2016 4K OLED model.

What this does is benefit 4K LG TV owners that subscribe to DIRECTV's satellite TV service in that they will not need the set-top-box for these DIRECTV enabled TVs.

Is the update automatic or do you have to manually do it? (Can't wait for my E6!)

The factory default is for updates to automatically run.

In your case we check for updates during the Q/C and just before calibration.

Is there any advantage to using the RVU if I already have a 4k Genie hooked up to my E6?

Although I'm not sure and can not confirm at this moment, you may have some small benefit by having less interconnections, like coax to the external DIRECTV C61 client, demodulated and put out over HDMI and then transported to the TV's HDMI input for further signal handling.

I like as few connections and devices possible in the chain. I have DIRECTV in our store showroom and my home and once this new LG 4K TV integrated DIRECTV service is launched I'll be doing a side-by-side comparison.

Just playing around with my new C6 I received yesterday. I am playing Netflix Marco Polo and the TV instantly switches to Dolby Vision picture settings. It looks just gorgeous after changing the color temperature and turning off all those dynamic contrast, super resolution, and edge enhancer commands

How can we fix or at least reduce this issue? particularly in dark scenes with blacks and grays?

What picture display are you using vivid or cinema?
The best for picture is isf expert1,it up converts the best and gives you the best color representation. I work with tv vendors all day and this is straight from Lg heads to use this picture for best color and blacks but does make tv alittle darker but I love it.

Isf mode is too dark and pushed red too much in the hue settings for my likings. I was using isf until a few day ago. I now switched to Standard and then used Disney WOW cal disc and the result is the most tolerant setting I can come up with:
Oled Light 50
Contrast 79
Brightness 53
Color 52
Tint G15 (which clearly proved that my panel pushes too much red out of the box)

Yes I do. I am surprised that I had to move tint to G15. Panel was pushing red like crazy out of the box. I was wondering why all on screen faces looked sun burned [emoji15]

I understand. But I performed basic calibration on Standard mode so that is the one I will be using unless playing content in hdr or 3d. If and when I will get a pro calibration I will use ISF mode.
Standard mode is so far the best I was able to get using Disney WOW
