I'm beginning to wonder if they're really going to wrap up Delta in two episodes. This is starting to look like it might become a "part one of two" thing.

I just finished watching the live stream of the final episode. They did wrap up the show and the (non-existing) love triangle in today's episode, but the way it was done felt incredibly rushed and ridiculous, and there are still some loose ends.

Delta has been a huge disappointment to me. I liked the music and there have been some good moments in the first cour, but the whole show fell apart during the second cour, in which the production staff were like wandering around aimlessly. It's worth noting that during the scripting of episode 4, Delta changed from being a single-cour+movie, to a two cours show. I am starting to wonder how Delta would've worked out as a single-cour plus movie.

I rate the show a 4/10.

This doesn't make me feel like getting Delta singles when I'm done with Frontier eventually.

Macross Frontier had much tighter scripting, the characters were way more interesting-it was just a much better show than Delta.

Does anyone have a list of what is officially released on blu with English subs for the Macross franchise?

Just from a cursory review of things it seems like:

The JP Macross Plus set
The Macross F movie set (but not the individually released blus?)
The Macross Delta releases

Is that it?

The TV series Macross Frontier discs do not have subtitles.

Do the individually released Frontier movie blus have subs, or just the ones that come in the box set?

As far as I understand it, Macross Plus only has subs for the movie edition, not for the ovas, which for some bizarre reason has the english dub. Awesome consistency there, and the reason why I didn't buy it.

Seems more and more if I want to enjoy Macross on blu, my options are custom discs/subs or learning Japanese.

Maybe, but I think it's more to do with Japan releases simply not having English subs as a common thing in general. Macross is hardly unique in that respect.

This, basically. HG has zero standing in the Japanese market, and Bandai Visual can release what they want under whatever excuse they want to give ("Subtitled for Japanese audiences learning English," etc.). Listing subs as part of the specs of a release cannot be legally proven as "marketing to Western fans" in the courts, since it is actual factual information about the product.

Harmony Gold can't block personal imports of Japanese-exported Macross products; Yamato took care of that nonsense a decade ago. So as consumers, we can purchase any Macross products we want from Japan without interference; it's simply more that there's very little call for English subtitles in Japan itself as a matter of general market-practice.

BV should man up and finally take HG to the cleaners. HG don't have a leg to stand on beyond the original series, and even that's tenuous. BV just don't want the hassle, but they must be losing out on $$$s by doing that. Perhaps that's why they've finally started subtitling the newer releases.

Macross F movie box set showed up in the mail today. Thanks again to all in the thread for confirming the subtitles.
