It's just crazy town / stupid / trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the biggest domestic market they have.
Sony seems to have really bad management these days, which became very appearant by the emails disclosed during their hack.

They specifically said the Sony stuff is region ABC:

Depends on the licensor. For Sony titles, region ABC.

I don't think it's been confirmed but a big indicator is the fact that the mock-up art for the Karate Kids are missing the Blu-ray logo on the case. BD-Rs cannot come in cases with the embossed Blu-ray logo because they don't meet the format's specifications.

Pictures of the case have shown up that say "Blu-ray disc" rather than the Bluray logo (the Bluray assoc doesn't allow the use of the logo on BD-R burned media), and the Amazon item pages are saying BD-R and MOD (manufactured on demand) and this has been confirmed.
Amazon will actually be the one to burn the disc after it is ordered, it has been reported.

Why does Sony state MOD anywhere here in description or on Amazon? Or did I miss it?

The interesting thing is that unlike the Karate Kid 3 listing the Body Double one actually has a Bluray logo on the case artwork pic!
One can still hope

Uhh...what does it say on the top of the bluray case pic in black writing!?
Blu-ray Disc TM. Furthermore the description reads BD-50.
Of course that's not any confirmation but like a stated, the Karate Kid 3 listing didn't have that......

That's not the blu-ray logo. That's generic text that says "Blu-Ray Disc." If you equate the two, then you're right.

Generic black writing on a case is not a logo

Most of these MOD releases are showing that

Others in this thread have stated that BD-r is not allowed to have the bluray logo. The karate kid case one is simply blue, whereas I would consider the bluray trademark text on body double a good sign.
Again, pure speculation until someone can actually confirm it.

Karate Kid 3 didn't and it also didn't say BD-50(1) in the technical description.....

Again, I only made the observation that the karate kid 3 case was completely blue, while the body double case pic says Blu-ray Disc trademark in BLACK WRITiNG on it and the technical description states BD-50 (1) which karate kid 3 DiD NOT either.
This does not prove anything but merely keeps my hopes up for the time being until someone who actually owns a copy or some review states that it is in fact a burned and not a pressed copy

Apparently you didn't see that my post was supposed to be humorous. So, since that approach didn't work, apparently you need an education. First off, I can read perfectly fine. You on the other hand seem to be aware that BD-R cases can't show Blu-ray logos, and no case here have shown any Blu-ray logos, yet you are having trouble getting past that because one of them has black writing with a trademark, and has some extra technical info about the kind of disc it uses? LOL okay. You apparently aren't aware that this info can be added by anyone. I can post the exact thing for Karate Kid pt III right now.

Since you can't seem to tell the difference, I'll visualize it for you:

This is a Blu-ray logo:

This isn't a Blu-ray logo:

Blu-ray Disc™

Saying that the generic black writing with a trademark somehow a "a good sign" in no way means anything. It isn't a logo, plain and simple, and based on the simple logical equation No logo = BD-R, one can presume the Body Double is also a BD-R. Any questions?
