Can't the existing player do that?

Along with the 203, my guess we will see a 203D with darbee but can't do DV for $599, a 205 that does HDR10 and DV for $1199, and a 205D that does darbee, DV and HDR10 for $1299, just like past models.

does it appear that more or dare I say most 4K TV's support DV in future releases of TV's either exclusively or with HDR10?

I guess we may have to wait and see. right now, DV is only available at a very limited number of movie theaters. i figure if more people get to experience it in movies, that they will push more for it in the HT like ATMOS.

for me, until my SXRD dies, I'm not getting a 4K tv, i do want a player to take advantage of movies that are ATMOS/DTS:X only on UHD discs. so, DV is way, way off the map for me.

how important is DV capability for most of you guys in your next player and in your display, is it a deal breaker?

Oppo has historically never offered trade-in deals. For people that send them back for no reason or slightly used industry or press loaners they are marketed as re-furbished.

The existing 103 thru 105D offer HDMI inputs that can accept HD with DD+, so the player can output 4Kx2K of that video.

The specifics to the next player's HDMI input have not been announced.

Your assuming HDR playback belongs to advanced models, it doesn't. All the base models of competitors support HDR10. Again we can't discuss DV because their has been no announcements or information from vendors.

DV support at this point in time is akin to how AVR's supported Atmos but not DTS:X. So the early players all support HDR10. On the other shoe you have LG, Vizio, and TCL selling products that due to recent FW updates support HDR10 and DV. We do already have VOD hosts that are offering DV 4K content.

Yes, BDMV HDR is mandatory for any and all UHD players. DV is entirely optional, but we're still waiting on the appropriate SoC and if OPPO have already got a pre-production model up and running now without the relevant chippery for DV then there's two hopes for getting DV in the finished 203 product: Bob Hope and no hope, because it's not the sort of thing that you can just leave a 'back door' in the firmware for, it needs specific decoding circuitry and the UHD Blu-ray version simply isn't available for mass-manufacture right now. That's why the upcoming Sony player won't have DV either.

I should have been more clear on my post. Of course the 203 will have HDR10, my guess is that a 203D model will come out with HDR10 and Darbee, and then the second half of 2017 the 205 and 205D will come out with DV added.

That makes sense. DV will probably cost them a few extra simoleons to licence anyway so why not keep it in reserve for the all-singing all-dancing 205 model which can follow at a later date?

Right now you can trade in a 103D to Amazon for $423. I am sure that the 203 will be available through Amazon, so that is a possible option for you.

I just traded in my 83 to Amazon for $291. I am going to order a 103 as soon as I get the credit from Amazon. I was going to get the 203 to future proof. However, I don't have a 4K TV yet, so I am going to hold off on a 4K player for a while since everything with DV hasn't been hashed out as of yet.

But, after the trade, I couldn't pass up a 103 for $200

Sony showed off their new UHD player at CEDIA last week, no price info and available through custom installers only! I'll be grabbing the Oppo once it is available, here is the link about the Sony player.

Sigh. I sure hope we're not headed for another two-year ironing-out-the-kinks journey to getting a, say, second generation OPPO universal with an SoC that competently handles all formats/processing without unique/rare quirks. Ironically just today I was listening to Shania Twain's Up! DVD-A and noticing that the 93 cuts off the very end of a few tracks on the album.

I'd like to be able to have my universal player cake and eat all the formats, too, before 2020.

doubtful. the 105 replacement is supposed to follow a few months after the 203 comes out.
