I just put an order in for the Ultimate Edition, and it'll be shipping to the UK tomorrow! An xmas present to myself.
I have so say the service from Dorado was very friendly and helpful. I hope this proves successful for them.

Yeah. How many filmmakers can you watch near 40 films and still feel like you've only just started, I mean, I have 9 Franco's from 1977 and that's not even all the movies he made that year!

Speaking of...anyone know if the Franco blu-ray database here is complete? I know it's missing some of the alternate covers for the Austrian/German editions, but otherwise I don't know if it's missing anything else.
Been picking up all the English-friendly releases I know of, and even a few double dips. For Franco nuts, I can add that the Austria/DE blu of Oasis of the Zombies has a different opening title sequence. But we also have a Franco thread I believe...
Lutz, I second your feelings. For a short while I thought I finally satiated myself in DVD days, but blu-ray has brought on a second honeymoon for me.

One thing I know that is not in the database are the limited hardbox releases. To the best of my knowledge only 20 of the Franco / Dietrich titles received one. All the Ascot Elite Franco releases did - which I think amounts to 15, but not all of the Dietrich ones did. At least, as far as I know. These were quite rare though, all limited to 66 copies each.

Received today. Fantastic release. Possibly the biggest improvement over a DVD release I have ever seen. This is like 'Blood and Black Lace' caliber improvement. The DVD was horrid, and this might be second best looking Franco on BD. Blue Underground needs to up their game, their releases are pathetic as of late. El Dorado can take 'Orloff' with a print and outshine the negs of the Harry Alan Towers films?

Are some of those not English friendly? I have 16 "Goya Collection" blus of the Dietrich produced Francos and I thought that was all they released.
Hoping for English friendly blus of Celestine and Plaisir a 3 (the database implies it has English, but the guy at shop.dtm.at says is does not).
Hey Brian, sure they could be better, but I understand you have a 130" set (I'm almost glad I don't, you make it sound like I probably couldn't enjoy half my collection anymore). IMO, the reviews here are a reasonable enough critique of the Blue Undergrounds. Repeatedly trashing labels putting out cult films in reasonably good blu-rays discourages people from buying them and then we don't get as many more Franco & other cult releases. I'm not disputing your criticisms, just think you make them sound worse than they are too a lot of folks. Hope you don't take my comment too badly.
BTW, I did order the Austrian blus of Vampyros Lesbos and Bloody Moon to see how they compare. Will try to post my non expert opinion of them in the appropriate threads.

No offence taken. I know I tend to nitpick, but it is frustrating given these films usually get one chance on the format, and to see them released the way they are...disappointing to say the least. There are some nice looking Francos on BD. I think BU's 'Justine' looks great. As do all of the Kino releases, even with the major print damage on some of them. I did find some of the framing on 'Nightmares' odd at times, but only on tje Miranda scenes. I also think 'SKiE' looks nice.

I have not seen any of the German Golden Goya releases.

There are only 16 Franco releases.

I read the original post to mean that there were limited editions of Franco and Dietrich both as director released by Goya.

Thanks Brian, I should add I only have a meager 42", and though I sit too close, I'm sure it spares me some of the agonies a larger set would reveal.
Personally, I think many of the Dietrich/Francos are the worst looking. From the same digital restorations for the DVDs. I remember thinking the DVDs looked nice on my old CRT, but they tend to look the most processed to me. That probably helped me be more forgiving about the noise reduction on Vampyros Lesbos etc. I'm still glad to have them (I just sit a bit further away and they do the trick), and except for Ilsa and Blue Rita they are generally my least favorite Francos. But Franco is like sex, even when it's so so it's good.
Still looking forward to this new release and hope the label puts out more Francos, maybe another spy flick like Lucky 7.
EDIT: PS, I couldn't find an actual general Franco thread here (no pun intended).

I don't personally find screen size to affect whether something looks good or bad. Anything SD, for example, can look pleasing as it just looks softer. What does seem to get amplified in ugliness, however, is DNR and EE. It loses any chance at an organic looking presentation. Smeared image just looks bad. You know how in VHS days where you got ahold of an umpteeth gen dupe of something and the image got smeared looking, not like the original. It reminds me of that, to a much lesser degree. Sometimes caps look decent enough but in motion it is bad.

The site review of Ilsa gives you a good idea what to expect from all the Goya blu rays. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Ilsa-.../83604/#Review

They use "as is" transfers like the Redemption titles but I think all the elements are in much better condition.

Nothing to complain about! The only really terrible Franco releases are from Blue Underground and the Severin Count Dracula.

You are more dedicated than I! Have not touched the mid-later titles like Bloody Moon or Oasis. I kinda drop out in the mid 70s. Have considered Oasis, but that is based on having the DVD already,it not being bad enough to sell, and rather having a BD over a DVD. I get lost in the Dietrich era.
