In the first 38 minutes from 1x01-2 things were OK, then the subtitle became useless.

In the next episode I noticed 1 minute of difference (perhaps more, didn't check further).

If the first 38 minutes were okay, then it probably wouldn't be a speed-up issue, you'd notice the gradually shifting. It might be a difference in content.

If the length from both DVD and Blu-ray episodes is exactly the same and nothing (not even 1 second) has been added or removed then the subtitles are all synchronized. Provided, of course, you get subtitle files extracted from NTSC DVDs.

If you are using PAL subtitle files (taken from european or australian DVDs) then you need to use a software and convert their fps from 25 to 23.976 and may even need to do further correction such as adding or subtracting a few seconds for the entire subtitle.

EDIT: I just found subtitles created for these Blu-ray episodes. That doesn't answer my question, though, if all episodes are 100% the same when compared to the DVDs.

http://dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=4439

Just found this review with more details about these discs:

The A-Team was shot on 35mm film and as such is a perfect fit straight out of the vault for HD; none of your standard definition videotape here, just high quality, high resolution film.....and I'm happy to report that it looks a peach! If anyone reading this has other US TV shows like Galactica and Buck Rogers on Blu-ray then you'll know what I mean. This was shot, assembled, edited and post-produced entirely on film and therefore doesn't require an expensive rebuild ala Star Trek: TNG with newly rendered CGI, or a rebuild with upscaled SPFX ala X-Files.

Bold, bright, colourful images that hold up nicely with bold colours, good black levels and plenty of detail, especially in well lit sequences. I checked every single episode (97 in all) both visually and aurally and they all look great. I didn't see any signs of damage or artefacts; no crush, no mosquito noise, no aliasing and no evidence of poor encoding. These discs hold between 4-5 x 45-48 minute episodes each and are all BD50s with duel layers. The only downside is that these almost certainly are aged masters dating back some years, possibly 1-2K in resolution so some softness is to be expected. Also, on the season three 2-parter "The Bend in the River", the syndication 2-part version seems to have been used and some footage is missing (approximately 4 minutes).

Picture perfectionists will probably pick fault with these transfers (don't they always online?) but for the vast majority of punters and fans these transfers will be the business.

1.33:1 / 1080/24p / MPEG-4 AVC

Well, that answers my question. In DVDCompare's page for season 3 the following is listed:

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=38828

Original Pressing

DISC 1

- "The Bend in the River, Part 1" (1984) (45:38)
- "The Bend in the River, Part 2" (1984) (47:16)

Then the SECOND PRESSING:

- "The Bend in the River" (1984) (95:45)

********
- Note this second pressing includes the corrected non-syndicated version of "The Bend in the River". If you receive the first pressing in your boxset, a disc exchange is available directly from Fabulous Films.

- Make sure you receive the second pressing for the full length version of "The Bend in the River".
********

CUTS:
Blu-ray B Original Pressing United Kingdom- Fabulous Films - No cuts, though "The Bend in the River" is the syndicated version.
Blu-ray B Second Pressing United Kingdom- Fabulous Films - No cuts.

Well, since 4 minutes are missing according to that review, then it's wrong to write "NO CUTS" for the original pressing. It was not just a matter of splitting the episode into two parts.

*********

Since the same problem also happens in SEASON 2, I need to ask if there's also footage missing.

Look what DVDCompare said:

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=38826

45 plus 45 = 90 (minutes). If the 2nd pressing has 95, then there's also footage missing here.

Am I correct about that? If I am, then they also made a mistake in writing "NO CUTS".

>>>>>>>>

It's also unclear to me what this site means when it says "Corrected non-syndicated version".

When these two specific episodes aired for the first time were they splitted into 2 parts or as a single episode with 90/95 minutes? It doesn't seem this distributor would do a recall only because an episode was meant to be displayed in a single part and they make the mistake of splitting.

It would be logical to assume the main reason they did this was due to footage missing.

The same issue also happened in season 4:
http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=38845

In the episode Judgement Day.

Movie Censorship covers the differences of the syndicated for TV and the Uncut versions on the corrected discs.

Basically they cut some footage for the 2 part episodes to fit the time slot for US TV and they were accidentally used on the first pressing, but it was corrected after the first 500 units.

The standard or limited edition are worth getting if you are a big fan of the show imo, if you can get one of them at a decent price.

There's not a massive difference between the 2 versions. Picture and audio quality is really good - seem to be the same on both versions. It does say Region B on the box but not sure if the disc's are actually region locked or not.

The Limited Edition has a few new extra features and the signed art card.

Limited Edition Content.

Art card, hand signed by Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz.

New - 7 selected episodes from series 1, 2 and 4 have audio commentaries from Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz.

New - 5 behind the scenes featurettes from the commentary session with actors Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz.

The 2 remaining extras are ported over from the old set.

Rumours of Soldiers of Fortune: Interview with Stephen J. Cannell.

The Great 80's TV Flashback.

Both versions don't have a massive amount of extras but the LE has more. If you don't care about extras but like the show, get the cheaper standard version.

Too expensive although at least I hope the Limited Edition sets have the original cuts of the episodes. I still wonder why the original pre-teasers have been left off some episodes if Universal were using the original masters.

The new boxset is a ridiculous £163 on amazon but looking at the product page a few days ago i did see a listing for "like new" boxsets for £85 from kelsters dvds

Thought it might be a scam but interestingly when you click into kelsters details they come up as fabulous features ltd c/o pinewood studios

I figured it might be fabulous themselves getting rid of opened stock so i took a punt and ordered monday night and the boxset has arrived today! it's the new boxset with the commentaries and signed artcards (mine is number 621)

Its not sealed but the condition is otherwise excellent. They could have done with putting some bubble wrap around it (one of the boxset corners has taken a knock in transit) but apart from that i am well happy to get this for pretty much half price

oddly they also have the boxet listed for £110 like new. not sure what the difference would be for the extra £25. maybe bubble wrapped

Just pulled the trigger on the regular edition as it’s just over 60 quid now. It has been a tad cheaper before according to camelcamelcamel.

Any chance Koch Media will release The A-Team Blu-ray with German and English subs like Miami Vice?

Kelsters price was 100 quid for quite a while for the Limited Edition, went down yesterday to 90 quid.
It was at 85 quid, but for me 90 quid was low enough so I bit.

Can anyone confirm if the US set is Region Free or not? The listing here claims it is, but elsewhere all I see is it listed as Reg A.

To my knowledge all Universal releases are region-free.

If I were thinking of picking up The A-Team I'd probably wait for a bit. With Knight Rider now getting a 4K release it wouldn't surprise me if The A-Team wasn't too far behind...

Thanks for the info.

I'm happy with regular Blu for TV stuff.

The US set is a lot cheaper, but it seems to have one less disc, weirdly.

I would imagine the US set puts season 3 on 5 discs rather than the 6 discs in the UK version. 5 episodes on a disc isn't an issue and the UK set has loads of 5-episode discs in the set so not sure why they went with 6 for season 3 anyway.
