Yes but it's always worth pointing out shortcomings even if they make little difference to the overall package.
Maybe the BBC will make a bit of extra effort with their next steelbook so that collectors can have the steel on the shelf without the cardboard attachment or needing to put the booklet somewhere else

While i appreciate what you are saying, it really is not a problem and fits together very nicely.

The idea of steelbooks is not to leave the cardboard wrap on. Yes?
All my steelbooks sit on a shelf and I do not leave the cardboard on. Why would I? So from that viewpoint it is a problem.

But it's not that important so to the positive- the animation looks really great. Sampled the commentaries and not quite as polished but as the moderator points out they really are watching it for the first time ever and have not had any prep time so they can be forgiven for being a bit unsure.
The documentary looks interesting. To be frank ,any documentaries that spend over an hour looking back at the making of some real vintage tv has to be good. I've not seen it yet so I don't know how much time is spent just on looking at the creation of the animated version.

Will anyone watch in B&W. From a purist viewpoint, its animation not live action, its 16:9 not 4:3 so is there really any need to not watch in colour?

I do hope that the rest of the Who archive is preserved in this fashion so that eventually we do have every single episode ever, whether it be the genuine article, telesnaps or animation.
Fury from the Deep next please!

The animation was produced in black & white then colourised later by a different team. So, if one did want to be purist about it, the b&w is the original.

Has anyone noticed that in the colorized BD version , at the beginning of Episode 6, when the Daleks are emerging from their capsule, their guns and sucker arms are on the wrong sides? The picture is not horizontally flipped. Their "arms" are the opposite of their normal placement. The black and white version is correct throughout. I'm not sure how an error like that could be produced. If it was horizontally flipped, the Daleks would be on the opposite side of the frame, but they're not. If the colorized version is just the black and white version with color added, how could the arms get reversed?

I see that someone on the Amazon UK board has noticed this as well.

This had been corrected by the animators along with other errors using a new master, but the Beeb in it's wisdom seem to have used the wrong one.

Yet more evidence that BBC Worldwide must be the laziest suckiest home video company in Britain.

In all fairness, the colour version was probably already being done when the issues were noticed and fixed on the B&W due to the time restraints. The colour version wasn't made by the animation team and they've introduced errors of their own. Mostly colour choices (particularly the tunic button, it doesn't make any sense now in colour) but the aforementioned flipped Dalek of course. They don't seem to have made any reference to existing colour photos from the production. The BBC clearly wanted to pay as little as possible and got what they paid for, but I'm not massively fussed since I consider the colour version an addition to the work and not the default version.

What sucks is that for the definitive B&W version they haven't bothered to use the corrected version. To rub salt in, they've only used lossless audio on the colour version, lossy Dolby Digital on the B&W. Why? Sheer laziness I guess with a large dollop of ineptitude. Don't get me wrong, some great people work on BBC releases, sadly when those people aren't their this stuff happens.

My b&w blu-ray has a scratch on it, and the b&w DVD is badly scuffed. Both were on the spindles fine so they were clearly damaged, then placed on the spindles when packaging. Both color discs are fine. I'm wondering what to do about it. I can scan the blu-ray in the PC to see if it scans without errors, but I'm still not happy having a brand-new disc with a scratch on it. It makes it harder to sell later if I want to. Between this, the poor character animation, and the multiple mistakes on both the b&w and color versions, I regret buying this.

I am stunned -- stunned, I tell you, by the lack of this title's availability on Blu-ray in the US.

Someone mentioned on Gallifrey Base's section on the bluray that the BRs are region free. I can't vouch for that myself - I only have native UK players - but perhaps someone with the set can check.

Edit: Someone else confirmed it on GB, and its one of the more senior posters who wouldn't be telling porkies!

Great! Can someone confirm the extras are viewable on US NTSC sets? It's my understanding that the UK Blu-rays of Series 1-4 are viewable but the extras, encoded in PAL, are not.

And is this available in Blu-ray only -- both in B&W and color -- without the DVD discs? The Australian release is a 2BD set. I'm not seeing it on Amazon UK, only the steelbook with the superfluous DVDs listed.

Not sure where to post this but in case anyone hasn't yet heard Amazon USA appear to have spoilered the next Classic Who release:

Part animated for sure as I doubt the BBC would let them spoiler fresh recoveries.

If you read the DW forums this isn’t a full new animation rather a cheap animation of the telesnaps. It has been broadcast previously on the Britbox streaming service in the US.

This is nowhere near the quality of the recent animations hence it’s not clear if this will be released in the UK as well as US.

That is a rumour that has not been confirmed either way as yet. I find it very difficult to believe they would release a DVD of telesnaps that is not supported by at least one new live action episode (the existing 2 having already been released on the Lost in Time set). Who the hell would buy it? Not me, and not most fans I'd wager.

After the success of the last two, if this does turns out to be the tele snaps animation then it's an incredibly poor choice. I'm hoping they're NOT that stupid, but we'll see.

I really wish Phil would come clean about what he has and hasn't found though. When he said he'd leave no stone unturned I don't think anyone took him literally.....
