I see in another thread you're looking for other nature docs, so you could pick up Planet Earth Special Edition in this box set: https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Histo...7184277&sr=1-1

Also, be ABSOLUTELY SURE you get the UK edition of Life. The US edition is narrated by Oprah. The UK edition is narrated by David Attenborough. Totally different experience.

FYI ... Saw first Planet Earth Special Edition (6-Disc) down from $12.96 to a crazy $9.96 in-store at Walmart last week. Don't know if it's still on sale or not.

If you want to pick up Planet Earth II on the cheap, you should be able to pre-order it at Best Buy with Visa Checkout right now ($25 off $100+ purchase) to snag it for $30.

Depends on your definition of "cheap". I found a "Like New" copy on eBay for $50 + shipping.

If you have a HD-DVD player, there are a couple sets on sale that are much less expensive, though.

Is Planet Earth II actually shot in 1080P?

So even the regular bluray should look better than the first Planet Earth?

I can't determine if the 4K UHD package will include the regular Blu-rays or not. Amazon says it comes with 3 discs, yet BBC America shop includes a banner that says 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray, but lists it as 2-disc at the bottom. The regular BD is also 2-discs.

I would have gotten the 4k if it included the blurays as well but I don't think it does.

What's crazy is that the iTunes season pass is only $17.99CAD (vs. $39.96 for the Blu-ray).

Obviously the Blu will have vastly superior video and sound quality, but I have to say I watched the trailer on my Apple TV and it looked pretty darn good. At half the price, it's tempting!

Received my North American 4K copy today. 3 discs, with the third being solely a Blu-ray containing the making-of diaries.

Popped in the first disc and watched the first episode. Gotta say I am quite impressed. Missed half of what David was narrating because I was distracted by the level of detail and colour on my screen! Simply gorgeous and a must-own set.
Jaw-dropping, demo worthy material here. Can't wait to watch the rest!

I got my set in Monday from Target. I am excited to watch it for the first time. I have heard great things about the PQ with the 4K version, hopefully the 2D version looks good as well.

2D version? Or you meant the regular 1080p version? Is the regular Blu-ray version 2 discs with the bonus disc from 4K version integrated into each episode?

Update: Confirmed, to answer my own question, the answer is yes.

I screened the blu-ray on my projection system last night. It looks fantastic. With Darbee, it looks better than anything I've ever seen. The narration was a little low compared to the sound effects, but that is the style nowadays. Very happy with it. Looking forward to seeing the rest, but I think the bit with the iguana babies and the snakes is going to give me nightmares for weeks.

I like having the diaries section at the end of the show instead of on a separate disc.
