This sounds like a automated response sent to many OPPO customers since I never once mentioned a in between product in my email (Perhaps these UDP-203/UDP-205 players might not go out of production until late 2019 which would give it around a 3 year product life cycle, then there is rumors of maybe a UDP-203D or UDP-205D sometime in the future).
Also on the OPPO website there is a link that goes into details on why HDMI 2 audio only on the UDP-205 only offers jitter reduction. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 04-22-2017 at 05:45 PM. |

Well, yeah. I'm watching him throw the box innards around and wondering if he has anger issues. I was afraid he'd start throwing stuff at us if we called him on the carpet for it !
![]() And, as far as him taking the lid off the unit, why did he bother? Everything he showed us is was in the interior pics that you supplied in the OP for this thread. I frankly didn't think he knew the difference between a capacitor and a resistor. |

I thought the same thing when he removed the lid and talked about how well made it was then that noise it made when he tossed it aside! I was like WTF was he trying to be funny.
![]() but seriously I am saving up for this currently. I want it now. also this is a stupid stupid question because I know I am one of those consumers who sometimes doesn't use the audio video components to their fullest potential. But to truly experience the sound quality DAC this player offers .... doe sthis transmit well thru the HDMI output to your receiver or is it best to use the audio 7.1 channel pre-outs to the receiver? Or does it really matter? (Although I would assume to take full advantage of ATMOS audio that has to go thru HDMI for bitstreaming option correct? |

To decode Dolby Atmos or DTS-X audio requires bitstream over HDMI. Use of the Analog 7.1 RCA outputs is provided for legacy AVR's that cannot use HDMI connectors, or cannot decode to a 7.1 pattern. You can not get object based sound decoded this way. The extra benefit of the Sabre DAC in the 205 is described in the following from Oppo: (underlining provided for emphasis) HDMI Audio Jitter Reduction (from Oppo Digital-Knowledge Base article) The UDP-205 features a high-stability, high-precision HDMI clock and a special HDMI audio jitter reduction circuit. This unique design significantly reduces jitter and eliminates timing errors, allowing you to enjoy your music with increased accuracy when you use the audio-only HDMI output (HDMI-2) port for connecting the audio signal. PCM and DSD signals rely on the HDMI clock directly, so the HDMI audio jitter reduction circuitry can improve the sound quality of PCM and DSD audio. For compressed bitstream audio, it helps to ensure error-free transmission, and may improve the audio performance depending on whether the audio decoder in the A/V processor or receiver uses a synchronous or asynchorous clock scheme. A. Synchronous clock scheme in AVR Compressed audio decoding requires buffering of the audio data and performing mathematic manipulations. If the decoder uses a synchronous clock design, the decoded data is usually driven out with a clock that is 1x, 2x, or 4x that of the reconstructed audio clock but synchronized to it, so the benefit can carry over. or B. Asynchorous clock scheme in AVR If the decoder uses a completely new, locally generated clock to drive out the decoded data, then jitter reduction on the player side is not a benefit, but the same circuit ensures error-free delivery of the bitstream audio data to the decoder thanks to a very stable HDMI video clock and a constant CTS value. (end of Oppo excerpt) A link to the post from JohnAV and the knowledge base article is here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=45 So, to recap, this benefit cannot be derived by using the HDMI-1 output to the AVR to then pass the video to the TV. The HDMI-2 out for audio is required to benefit from the jitter reduction processing. The knowledge base article is really technical, I had to read it a couple of times to get good comprehension, as most of my audio experiences go back to the all analog era of the 70's and 80's, before HDMI, dsp's, dac's, and balanced output ports (just rca only back then.) OPPO UDP-205 ULTRA HD BLU-RAY DISC PLAYER PREVIEW - hometheaterhifi - Mike Osadciw - May 5th, 2017
High fidelity video and audio in one machine is completely possible. The OPPO UDP-205 sets out to prove just that. ![]() The OPPO UDP-205 Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is a machine built for videophiles who have the audiophile bug – and what a machine it is! I knew something special was going to be in this box that weighs in just over 30lbs. How much different could it be from its smaller sibling, the already excellent UDP-203? Look for my full review of the OPPO 205 in a few weeks! |

Nice setup - Shows him using a iPad to control player.
Someone asked : what's the maximum hard drive capacity we can connect to the USB port of UDP-205 ? is 3TB or 4TB or 8TB hard drive readable by this player? it's 8TB.... |
