Note, it doesn't say "new" 4K transfer so perhaps they are just re-using the existing? Maybe someone can find out from them what it entails especially regarding the color timing.

The newest Blu from MGM has the original audio on the mono track, with the proper gun sounds.

I believe the issue is that the gun SFX were recorded in mono and they couldn't make it sound right in stereo. But the new sound effects are just so... ordinary.

If the result is seamless then that's good enough for me. And even if Kino don't colour correct it to remove the Ritrovita 'look' (piss-yellow colour and really poor blacks) I'll change the colour temp on my TV to get it looking a bit more normal. Looks like I might FINALLY be able to retire my creaky old DVD of the theatrical cut.

Someone remarked earlier in the thread that all studios should licence their stuff out if they don't want to bother with it themselves any more, and with this film being one of MGM's crown jewels (in terms of prestige, if not outright bumper sales figures) along with The Thing and Carrie it makes me wonder if everything in their catalogue is up for grabs, Bond movies aside.

Man, if companies like Shout and Arrow (and maybe Kino?) team up even more over the coming months and years this could be the start of something special. Physical media's last hurrah it may well turn out to be, but what a way to go. Bring 'em all on!

This is so disappointing. I thought Criterion had the rights to this and was gong to release it at some point.

Hey, this is good news, I like it.

Original mono would do just fine. Subtitles? ...That too, but not the end of the world. ...4K scanning? ...Can't hurt. ...3D?

Comes summer time and I'll keep an eye open .... the one I still got left.

Me seeing the first part of the thread title under the forums and thinking "they're still arguing about the last release" vs. me actually clicking on the OP and seeing the announcement:

I actually never bought the remaster, as I didn't know about it, I thought it was just repackaged, and I always owned the one from 2009. After looking at those yellow screens, I hope that Kino's is a new remaster.

How bad are these releases? I own them both (the latter for the other two movies).

I'm fully expecting the theatrical to be the yellow transfer too. If it's not, then great news, but I won't set myself up for disappointment.

Well OK then. Looks like this will be my first Kino Lobber blu-ray! I'll see if I can get it as soon as possible. Thanks Kino!

Im not sure I get the hate for either TMWNN or the 2011 editions. Sure the extended has it's problems with the voice over but it looks great. Will be good to see the Theatrical in HD. Day One.

I'm in the minority, because I prefer the Extended Edition to the theatrical cut, and I'm in the extreme minority because I like the current MGM 4K restoration transfer, yellow and all.

I'm going to triple-dip just the same, though.

I'm predicting that this Kino Lorber release will be comparable to their superb release of One Million Years B.C., with the Theatrical Cut on one disc, and the Extended Cut on a second disc.
